UNRWA: Humanitarian response is “impossible” in Gaza with Israel’s restrictions on aid

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday that Israel's severe restrictions on the arrival of aid to the Gaza Strip make providing a humanitarian response "extremely difficult, if not impossible."

This came according to UNRWA Communications Officer, Louise Waterridge, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) about restricting the entry of aid into the Strip, and the UN agency published its content on its account on the X platform.

Waterridge added that the restrictions imposed by the Israeli authorities on the arrival of aid to Gaza make providing a humanitarian response “extremely difficult, if not impossible.”

“We need continuous and predictable access to be able to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza,” she stressed.

Describing the suffering of relief teams in Gaza, Waterridge said: “We are struggling to obtain the approval of the Israeli authorities to enter and deliver aid, with the aim of ensuring the safety of our teams and the safety of the aid at the same time.”

She concluded by saying: “We have doctors and nurses working in Gaza, but what is the benefit of their presence when medicine is not available due to the strict Israeli restrictions?”
