Israeli occupation releases 30 Palestinian detainees after completing their sentences.

Today, Thursday, the Israeli occupation authorities released about (30) detainees from several prisons. They were released after the end of their sentences, including the Jerusalemite prisoner Saed Salama, who spent 24 years in the occupation prisons.

The Prisoners' Club said in a brief statement that the occupation forces imposed strict conditions on him and his family to prevent any celebration of his freedom. This is part of the systematic terrorism practiced by the occupation authorities against released prisoners and their families.

The statement added that the photos of the prisoners once again reflected the level of brutality practiced against them by the prison system in an unprecedented manner, as it required the transfer of a number of them for treatment, especially since some of them suffer from scabies, specifically those who were released from Megiddo prison, which is witnessing a widespread spread of the disease among the prisoners, noting that some of the prisoners were subjected to severe beatings until the last moment of their arrest.

The releases come as occupation forces continue daily arrest campaigns in the West Bank, arresting thousands since the start of the genocide.

The commander of US Central Command will return to Israel next week, amid the strikes in Yemen.

The commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Kurilla, will arrive in Israel early next week, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan 11) reported Thursday evening.

The Broadcasting Authority reported that Kurilla is expected to visit the country early next week, noting that his visit will take place against the backdrop of "US military strikes against the Houthis and the buildup of US forces near Iran and Yemen."

According to the report, the United States is increasing its forces in the region. In the past 24 hours, it has moved B-52 strategic bombers and B-2 Spirit bombers—bombers capable of carrying a variety of heavy bombs, bunker-buster bombs, and nuclear weapons—to Diego Garcia Air Base in the Indian Ocean, close to Yemen and Iran, but beyond the range of drones that could be launched by the Houthis.

Last week, Washington deployed dozens of transport aircraft and F-35 fighter jets to the region, arriving at US bases in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait.

Following the launch of the ballistic missile from Yemen, Israel held talks with the United States, which also conveyed to Tel Aviv, over the past 24 hours, a message stating, "At this stage, we prefer to act alone; leave the Houthis to us."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Kurilla, during an unannounced visit to Tel Aviv, Israel's public broadcaster Kan 11 reported Monday evening.

Red Crescent: We recovered the body of a Civil Defense member from Tel Sultan after he was missing for days.

The Red Crescent Society reported that its crews, in coordination and with the support of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), successfully entered the Tel al-Sultan area in Rafah. This followed five days of coordination attempts to obtain access to the area to determine the fate of nine of its missing paramedics who had been besieged and targeted by the occupying forces.

In a brief statement, the team said it faced significant difficulties searching for traces of martyrs at the site due to the extensive destruction and the disappearance of landmarks. However, it succeeded in recovering one of the bodies of the Civil Defense crews.

It added that, due to the inability to continue the search operations due to darkness, the area was withdrawn and that an attempt would be made to re-enter the area tomorrow, which the occupation army has been occupying for five days, preventing ambulance and rescue crews from reaching it.

The Red Crescent Society had previously expressed its deep concern for the safety of its nine crew members besieged by the occupation forces in Rafah, holding the occupation authorities fully responsible for their fate.

Israeli occupation forces hundreds of citizens to eat their iftar at the Beit Furik checkpoint.

Hundreds of citizens broke their fast on Thursday, marking the 27th day of Ramadan, at the Beit Furik military checkpoint east of Nablus.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli occupation forces stationed at the Beit Furik military checkpoint detained dozens of vehicles as citizens were returning to their homes in Nablus and other northern governorates, preventing them from passing through the checkpoint. This forced them to break their fast by eating whatever food they could find at the checkpoint.

It's worth noting that Nablus Governorate is experiencing a tight siege, following the installation of more than ten checkpoints by the occupation forces at the city's entrances, with the Beit Furik checkpoint being considered the most difficult.

10 dead as a result of Israeli occupation's bombing of the cities of Gaza and Khan Yunis

At least 10 civilians were killed and others injured in Israeli airstrikes on the cities of Gaza and Khan Yunis on Thursday.

WFP: Hundreds of thousands of Gazans are at risk of severe hunger

The United Nations World Food Programme warned on Thursday that hundreds of thousands of Gazans are once again at risk of severe hunger and malnutrition as the expanding Israeli military campaign significantly disrupts food aid operations.

"The World Food Programme and its food security partners have been unable to bring new food supplies into Gaza for more than three weeks," the organization added in a statement, noting that its remaining food stocks are sufficient for operations for a maximum of two weeks, according to Reuters.

On the other hand, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced the martyrdom of more than 180 children in the Gaza Strip in a single day as a result of Israel's resumption of its genocidal war.

The agency called, via a post on its X account, for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

She said: In Gaza, more than 180 children were reportedly killed in a single day, and if the ceasefire is not restored, the number of casualties will continue to rise.

Israel ended the ceasefire with Hamas on March 18, launching a surprise wave of airstrikes that killed hundreds of Palestinians across the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian security delegation's visit to Doha aims to discuss the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, in preparation for the transition to the second phase of the permanent ceasefire agreement.

On Tuesday morning, March 18, the Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip, after a two-month pause under a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on January 19. However, the occupation violated the terms of the ceasefire throughout the two months, continuing its bombing of various areas in the Gaza Strip, causing casualties and injuries. It also refused to implement the humanitarian protocol, and tightened its stifling siege on the Strip, which is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy.

Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi said Thursday that Palestinian factions have responded responsibly and seriously to previous initiatives to halt the war on Gaza, reiterating the resistance's readiness to continue negotiations responsibly.

Mardawi said in a statement, "The past period witnessed the introduction of a number of initiatives and proposals seeking to calm the situation, halt the aggression, and implement political and humanitarian relief measures, including the withdrawal from Gaza, the exchange of prisoners, the commencement of reconstruction, and the lifting of the siege."

He stressed that the Palestinian forces had dealt with these initiatives responsibly and seriously, "but the occupation reneged on the understandings, broke its promises to the mediators, and returned to a policy of killing and escalation."

He stated that "this evasion not only reveals the arrogance of the occupier, but also presents the international community with a new test: either act in accordance with law and justice, or continue with a policy of double standards, which threatens stability not only in Palestine but in the entire region."

He stressed that "the resistance affirms its readiness to continue working and negotiating responsibly to achieve our goals," adding, "Resistance has never been futile. Rather, it has been and remains a legitimate means against injustice and a path to justice and liberation."

Mardawi stated, "It is time to restore Palestinian rights and pave the way for a just and comprehensive solution that ends the occupation and guarantees freedom and dignity for the struggling people."

855 Palestinians killed since the resumption of the war on Gaza, and the occupation is considering escalating the aggression.

Dozens were killed and wounded on Thursday in Israeli military attacks on Gaza, marking the tenth day of the resumption of the war of extermination in the Strip. Meanwhile, the wave of forced displacement due to Israeli airstrikes continues.

The Israeli army continued its ground operation in the northern, southern, and central Gaza Strip, amid ongoing shelling and house demolitions in northern Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, and in the town of Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis.

The Israeli military warned residents of neighborhoods in Gaza City to evacuate their homes ahead of their planned bombing, as part of a genocide against Palestinians that has continued for the 17th month. This includes "residents of the neighborhoods of Western and Eastern Zeitoun, Tel al-Hawa, the Old City, Sheikh Ajlin, Sheikh, Tasbeeh al-Nafuz, and Southern Rimal."

An Israeli military spokesman said, "This is a preliminary and final warning before an attack," claiming that the evacuation decision came in response to rockets being fired from the area toward Israel. He concluded by saying, "You must move immediately to the southern Gaza Valley, to known shelters."

Meanwhile, the United Nations announced that 142,000 people were displaced once again after the Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip and issued "evacuation orders."

The UN spokesman said that the ongoing Israeli airstrikes, "evacuation orders," and continued withholding of humanitarian aid have exacerbated the situation in the Strip.

Calling on UN to reverse its decision to reduce international staff in Gaza

The Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGOs) expressed its shock on Thursday at the UN Secretary-General's decision to reduce the number of its employees in the Gaza Strip, at a time when the occupying Israeli state continues to commit widespread war crimes and crimes against humanity, and violates the International Court of Justice's ruling on measures to stop genocide in Gaza. The PNGOs called for a reversal of this decision.

In a statement, the network condemned the occupation's crime of targeting the United Nations headquarters in central Gaza, which resulted in the killing of an international employee and the injury of others. This is the latest in a series of attacks by the occupation against employees of international and Palestinian organizations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The network considered that taking this decision at this particular time, under the pretext of the UN's inability to maintain the safety of its employees, cannot be justified. Rather, the UN must increase the number of its employees and provide international protection for Palestinian civilians and civilian objects, as their presence is essential to fulfilling their role of protection, monitoring, and monitoring violations of international law, international humanitarian law, and war crimes, and to activate accountability mechanisms.

She recalled the "fundamental humanitarian principle that no one should be left behind," and said, "We fear that the withdrawal of UN staff will lead to further violations against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip."

The network called on the United Nations to immediately reverse the decision to withdraw international staff, strengthen the UN presence in the Gaza Strip, and send more international personnel to ensure the protection of civilians and monitor human rights violations. It also called on the occupation to pressure it to halt measures preventing international staff from accessing the Gaza Strip and the restrictions imposed on the work of UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations, as well as to ensure the entry of foreign journalists and international diplomats into the Gaza Strip.

It also called for the full implementation of the International Court of Justice's provisional measures to prevent genocide, including ensuring access to humanitarian aid, halting military operations targeting civilians, deploying a UN protection force in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to protect Palestinian civilians, investigating the consequences of previous UN withdrawals, and establishing safeguards to prevent further abandonment of civilians in crisis areas.

He also called on countries to fulfill their pledges and commit to imposing an immediate ban on arms exports to the occupying state, and to hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable.

Before the Human Rights Council, Saudi Arabia reiterated its call for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by putting an end to Israeli violations and working to halt all Israeli military operations, whether in the Palestinian territories or Syria.

During the Council's session on "The Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories" in Geneva, Switzerland, Ambassador Abdul Mohsen bin Khathila, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations, strongly condemned the continued attacks and violations perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people, noting the systematic targeting of civilians.

He stressed Saudi Arabia's rejection of the Israeli occupation's establishment of an agency aimed at displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and its approval of the separation of 13 illegal settlement neighborhoods in the West Bank, considering this a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

He also expressed Saudi Arabia's condemnation of the Israeli bombing of Syrian territory, noting that these attacks pose a serious threat to the security and stability of Syria and the entire region. He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in putting an end to these violations and working to halt all Israeli military operations, whether in Palestinian or Syrian territories.

Netanyahu tightens his grip on the judiciary with the Knesset's approval of an amendment to the committee that selects them.

The Israeli Knesset gave final approval on Thursday to an amendment to the law establishing the Judicial Selection Committee, a move the opposition believes further strengthens Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's control over the judiciary.

The Knesset reported on its website that the amendment was approved by a majority of 67 members (out of 120) with one member opposing it.

The official Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that opposition members of parliament withdrew from the session in protest before the vote.

The previous committee comprised the Chief Justice and two of its judges, the Minister of Justice and another government minister, a member of parliament from the ruling coalition and another from the opposition, a representative from the Ministry of Justice, and two representatives from the Bar Association.

The composition will remain the same under the amendment, but with the exclusion of representatives from the Bar Association. The government and opposition will choose two legal experts to replace them.

The new composition of the committee ensures greater government control over the judicial selection process.

This committee is responsible for selecting judges for the court system at all levels: the Supreme Court (including selecting the chief justice and his deputy), the central courts, the conciliation courts, in addition to appointing judges for the traffic courts.

The amended law will take effect after the next general elections scheduled for the end of 2026, unless early elections are held, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.

Opponents of the amended law view it as "an additional step toward tightening government control over the judiciary, which could undermine the independence of the courts," while the government considers it "a necessary reform to ensure broader representation in the judicial appointment process," according to the broadcaster.

The commission noted that the amendment to the law "comes amid growing tensions between the Bar Association and the government, as the association accuses the ruling coalition of seeking to impose political control over the judiciary."

She added, "The government's legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara, expressed her strong opposition to the new amendments."

Mayara considered these amendments to "cast a heavy political shadow over the judiciary, undermining its independence and ability to monitor the executive authority."

The commission added that "the amendment to the law comes within the context of a series of judicial amendments the government is seeking to pass amidst sharp internal divisions and ongoing protests from the opposition and civil society."

The Supreme Court (Israel's highest judicial authority) has frozen Netanyahu's decision to dismiss Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar until April 8, the day on which the justices will consider petitions filed by the opposition against the dismissal.

For days, Israel has witnessed mass demonstrations rejecting Netanyahu's decision to dismiss both the head of the Shin Bet security service and the government's legal advisor. This move, according to the opposition, is part of a broader effort to control all government institutions.

Israelis also protest Netanyahu's endangerment of the lives of prisoners in the Gaza Strip by resuming his genocidal war on the Palestinian enclave on March 18, in response to extremists in his ruling coalition.

Statistics on Land Day: Israeli occupation will seize 46,000 dunams in the West Bank in 2024.

The Central Bureau of Statistics stated that the area of land seized by the Israeli occupation in 2024 amounted to 46,000 dunams.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) stated in a statement issued on Thursday, on the occasion of Land Day, that during the year 2024, 35 orders were issued to seize approximately 1,073 dunums, five expropriation orders for approximately 803 dunums, and nine orders to declare approximately 24,597 dunums as state lands, in addition to six orders to modify the boundaries of nature reserves. Through these orders, the occupation seized approximately 20,000 dunums, as part of the systematic and ongoing policy to control all Palestinian lands, deprive them of the exploitation of their natural resources, and as part of the annexation policy pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities in the West Bank.

More than 50,700 martyrs in Palestine since the beginning of the occupation's aggression on the Gaza Strip.

According to figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 49,747 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including approximately 18,000 children and 12,300 women, in addition to approximately 11,000 missing persons. Approximately 120,000 others have been injured as of March 24, 2025. Approximately 100,000 Palestinians have left the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the brutal Israeli aggression, which has been ongoing since October 7, 2023. In the West Bank, the Israeli occupation continued its aggression, with 943 Palestinians killed and 6,700 others injured as a result of attacks by Israeli occupation forces and settlers.

More than 70% of housing units in the Gaza Strip are uninhabitable.

The statistics indicated that the occupation destroyed more than 60,368 buildings, and about 110,000 buildings were severely damaged, while the number of housing units that were completely or partially destroyed is estimated at no less than 330,000 housing units, which together constitute more than 70% of the housing units in the Gaza Strip. In addition, schools, universities, hospitals, mosques, churches, and government headquarters were destroyed, in addition to thousands of buildings of economic facilities, and the destruction of all aspects of the infrastructure, including streets, water and electricity lines, sewage lines, and the destruction of agricultural lands, making the Gaza Strip an uninhabitable place.

In the West Bank, the occupation forces demolished and destroyed more than 903 buildings and facilities, either completely or partially, in 2024. These included 242 buildings and facilities in the Jerusalem Governorate (24 self-demolitions in Jerusalem, according to data from the Jerusalem Governorate). In addition, 939 demolition orders were issued for Palestinian facilities under the pretext of lacking permits. Since the beginning of 2025, the occupation authorities have demolished dozens of buildings in Palestinian camps, displacing tens of thousands of their residents as part of a policy of displacing our people.

The population of the Gaza Strip will decrease by 6% by the end of 2024.

The statistics indicated that the estimated population of the State of Palestine at the end of 2024 reached 5.5 million Palestinians (3.4 million in the West Bank, while the estimated population of the Gaza Strip for the year 2024 decreased by about 160,000 Palestinians, reaching 2.1 million (a decrease of 6% compared to the population estimates for the Gaza Strip for the year 2023). Based on the revised population estimates prepared by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, there are approximately 14.9 million Palestinians in the world at the end of 2024, of whom 7.6 million live outside historical Palestine, 5.5 million live in the State of Palestine, and 1.80 million live in the 1948 territories.

More than 85% of water and sanitation facilities and assets have been completely or partially out of service.

The statistics continued: Initial damage assessments up to the ceasefire date showed that more than 85% of water and sanitation facilities and assets were completely or partially out of service and required rehabilitation, at a cost exceeding $1.5 billion, just for the areas where damage was identified. This includes sewage treatment plants, desalination plants, pumping stations, wells, water reservoirs, main transmission lines, water, sanitation and stormwater drainage networks, water monitoring laboratories, and others.

Due to the extensive damage to the water and sanitation sector, water supply rates have declined to an average of 3-5 liters per person per day, varying significantly by geographic location, water supply, infrastructure damage, and ongoing displacement. This rate is below the minimum level required for survival in emergencies, according to the World Health Organization's indicators, estimated at 15 liters per person per day. This is primarily due to damage to infrastructure, the complete power outage necessary for pumping water from wells and operating related water facilities, such as reservoirs and pumping stations, and restrictions on the provision of fuel and materials necessary for their operation.

Colonies are constantly expanding.

The number of Israeli colonial sites and military bases in the West Bank at the end of 2024 reached 551 sites, distributed as follows: 151 settlements, 256 colonial outposts, 29 of which were inhabited outposts that were considered neighborhoods of existing settlements, and 144 other classified sites, including (industrial, tourist, and service areas and camps for the occupation army).

The year 2024 witnessed a significant increase in the pace of settlement construction and expansion, with the occupation authorities approving numerous colonial master plans to build more than 13,000 settlement units throughout the West Bank, including Jerusalem, by seizing approximately 11,888 dunams of Palestinian land.

As for the number of settlers in the West Bank, it reached 770,420 settlers at the end of 2023. Data indicates that most settlers reside in the Jerusalem Governorate, with 336,304 settlers (constituting 43.7% of the total settler population), including 240,516 settlers in Area J1 (which includes the part of the Jerusalem Governorate that Israel forcibly annexed following its occupation of the West Bank in 1967), followed by the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate, with 154,224 settlers, 107,068 settlers in the Bethlehem Governorate, and 56,777 settlers in the Salfit Governorate. The governorates with the fewest settlers are Tubas and the Northern Jordan Valley Governorate, with 3,004 settlers.

The ratio of settlers to Palestinians in the West Bank is approximately 23.4 settlers per 100 Palestinians, while it reached its highest level in the Jerusalem Governorate, with approximately 67.6 settlers per 100 Palestinians.

Targeting Jordan and Palestine

Deliberate targeting of the Palestinian National Authority by the Israeli electronic intelligence targeting unit 8200, through the dissemination of rumors, slander, lies and misinformation by this unit, just as it does with the same value and goal by disseminating similar things against Jordan, the ruling regime, and the noble Hashemite family, by disseminating deliberate toxins to shake the Jordanian citizen's confidence in his political system, just as similar toxins are disseminated with the aim of shaking the Palestinian citizen's confidence in his national authority.

The hate speech is being spread using the names of well-known Palestinian families against Jordanians, and the names of people falsely belonging to prominent, honorable Jordanian families are being used to counter the fabricated Palestinian names.

Even Saudi Arabia has not been spared the evil of manipulation and harm after the failure of Netanyahu's plan and program to normalize relations with it, and his aspirations and that of his extremist coalition team, against Riyadh as a result of its adherence to the terms and contents of the "peace initiative" launched by the Beirut Arab Summit in March 2002. This initiative was originally formulated by Saudi Arabia and adopted by Arab leaders, and its content is that there will be no normalization without an Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, and from the Syrian Golan Heights, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The fabrications of the technological military unit and its electronic flies 8200, operate according to the values of war and hostility of the Israeli colonial expansionist project against the Palestinian Authority, firstly, because it stands as a political obstacle recognized by 142 countries in the world as a project for an independent Palestinian state, and secondly, against Jordan, the national political lever by rejecting all expansionist projects and plans to throw the Palestinian issue back outside its homeland, to Jordan, which works through its international European and American relations to thwart, expose and expose the colony’s projects. Jordan also works to support and back the Palestinian people on their homeland to remain and endure, and to support their struggle to regain their rights to freedom and independence after the end of the occupation and its defeat.

The goal of undermining the status of: 1- The Palestinian National Authority, 2- The confidence of our Jordanian people in their political system, and 3- Destroying the fraternal and solidarity-based relationship between Jordan and Palestine is a political battle, no less ferocious, evil and degenerate than the crimes of the colony against the Palestinian people, Lebanon and Syria and its crimes against the Palestinian people through genocide and ethnic cleansing, and erasing the three terms from the political dictionary: refugee, camp, UNRWA, are integrated goals to erase the Palestinian cause, erase the human existence of the people, and make the land of Palestine repellent to its people and its people through killing and destruction in preparation for forced or voluntary expulsion and displacement, as happened in the Gaza Strip and the camps of the Palestinian West Bank.

This is a battle whose dimensions we must understand, lest we be deceived by its military, technological, political, and intelligence tools. We must fight and confront it, as is happening in Jordan, Palestine, and the Arab world, through the Arab-Islamic Communication Committee against the policies of the colonizer, and in support of the struggle of the Palestinian people.

International institutions: a mirror for the powerful and an altar for Palestinian rights

 Amin Al-Hajj

Amin Al-Hajj

Opinion Writer

Over the past decades, Palestinians have placed their hopes in international institutions, viewing them as a haven for truth, a source of justice, a refuge for those with lost rights, and a tool to compel the occupation to implement resolutions it has long ignored.

The files were placed before the General Assembly and the Security Council, cases were referred to the International Court of Justice and international tribunals, and countless resolutions were issued. But what has actually been achieved? The answer is painful yet clear: nothing significant. We are still under occupation, settlements continue to sprout and expand, and the Nakba continues in new forms.

The truth that has become clear today, and which we sometimes refuse to acknowledge, is that we believed the lie of "international legitimacy," only to discover decades later that these institutions, despite their massive structures and prominent names, do not have the capacity or will to establish justice or uphold rights in a world of power, where Washington controls the veto keys and the balance of decisions, making these institutions a mirror that reflects the positions of influential countries, nothing more.

We have long lived with this illusion, believing that the accumulation of decisions and statements would one day lead to radical change. But these have been nothing more than ink on paper: condemnations and denunciations, calls for restraint, or others without an implementation mechanism. Even if they exist, they are never implemented, as there is no intention to do so. Or perhaps recommendations that never emerge from the corridors of the lavish halls.

The price we paid for this illusion was enormous: political sterility, constant betting on illusions, and endless postponement of confronting reality. Our cause was suspended between an unmoving "international legitimacy" and an unforgiving battlefield. While the world was busy issuing "balanced" statements and declarations, fearing accusations of anti-Semitism, the Gaza Strip was being annihilated, Jerusalem was being swallowed up, the West Bank was being dismembered, the occupation was being entrenched, and settlements were expanding.

During the aggression on Gaza, the United States stood as a solid "barrier" to the issuance of any Security Council resolution condemning the occupation or ordering a halt to the genocide. Even when it was issued, it was devoid of substance. The scene was repeated - previously - time after time, and with every massacre committed by the occupation, the international community expressed its concern to varying degrees. Despite this, the crime continued unabated, as if no one was "worried" at all.

The tragedy of the Palestinians lies not only in the scale of the injustice inflicted upon them, but also in the nature of the stakes. Their long history of struggle was reduced to a strategy of winning the legal "battle," while the balance of power on the ground was never in our favor. Resolutions piled up on the shelves of oblivion, and international law was emptied of its substance when it was not coupled with an implementation mechanism or effective pressure. Most dangerous of all, this stake stripped the Palestinians of the tools for action, creating a state of sterile waiting, like waiting for a mirage in a desert that never yields justice.

The problem lies not in the texts, but in the illusion of sovereignty and the lack of will on the part of these institutions, which possess neither independent authority nor a real capacity to impose justice or uphold rights. They speak only when permitted, remain silent when demanded, and are often used as a tool to beautify an ugly reality, not to change it.

There's no doubt that our shock at the judicial institutions was greater, as they were not significantly different. We saw unprecedented speed in other, less urgent cases, while there was a severe and deliberate delay in taking action when our blood was being shed, clearly revealing their double standards and absolute incompetence.

This is not a call to withdraw from international institutions, but rather a call to understand them for what they really are. They are neither saviors nor independent, but rather a reflection of the balance of power. They did not lie to us, but we believed that they were capable. Therefore, we need to rebuild our tools and stop waiting for justice that will not come from councils that do not meet until it is too late. It is time to open our eyes and build strategies and policies that do not rely on the illusion of justice, but on the power of truth.

..........

The tragedy of the Palestinians lies not only in the extent of the injustice inflicted upon them, but also in the nature of the stakes. Their long history of struggle has been reduced to a strategy of winning the legal "battle," while the balance of power on the ground has never been in our favor.

Gaza... Patience that surpassed the patience of the prophets

Baha Rahal

Baha Rahal

Opinion Writer

The patience of the people of Gaza was not ordinary; it was legendary, exceeding the limits of human endurance, to the point that it seemed like the patience of the prophets and saints. It was patience in the face of oppression and betrayal, in the face of killing and famine, and in the face of a war of extermination unlike any war in modern history. What the people of Gaza experienced was something humanity had never experienced before: under the relentless bombardment, amidst hunger, thirst, cold, and the massive destruction that devoured everything, while the world remained silent or complicit, and did not take any serious action to stop this massacre throughout its long and bitter months. Despite this, the people of Gaza clung to their land and refused to submit to attempts at displacement, even if nothing remained for them but rubble as a shelter. They chose to stay and endured everything that happened and is happening, and did not weaken, while the world, which chose to be a spectator to the massacre of the century, weakened.

The demonstrations that took place yesterday and swept the streets of the devastated Strip, demanding an end to the genocide and war crimes, came after the people of Gaza endured what no human being could endure. It is a natural right that must not be distorted for purposes here or there, nor must it be ignored or circumvented, lest the consequences of matters turn into something with undesirable consequences. Therefore, words of doubt and speeches of treason are a source of discord and a deception of the reality, and will be of no use; rather, they constitute a grave danger with undesirable consequences.

Yesterday, people in Gaza took to the streets, saying, "Until when?!" The displaced stood in front of their dilapidated tents and shelters that housed nothing but their pain. They raised their voices against everyone who had the ability to stop the bleeding but did not. They demanded that everyone shoulder their responsibility to save what could be saved. These demonstrations were not just protests; they were the final call of every conscience and everyone who has the ability to stop the carnage.

The people who took to the streets yesterday demanding an end to this massacre, and at the same time demanding that every Palestinian shoulder his or her responsibility, especially the leaders, factions, and parties, because the dire reality in Gaza is no longer tolerable, and every moment of delay means more suffering, more bloodshed, and more children sleeping without a roof, without food, and without life. These voices that demonstrated yesterday deserve urgent and immediate intervention, and that some people should not bury their heads in the sand and then come out with a statement here or there.

The people of Gaza have the right to demonstrate to stop the war, and no one has the right to blame them or question their actions, because what they have endured and endured is unbearable for anyone before them. What they are experiencing is unlivable, amidst a reality that has lost everything. Therefore, the attempts of some to fish for positions and distribute accusations are disgusting. It is unacceptable for someone to deliver patriotic speeches from his home in one of the capitals, among his family, while living a normal life, and then, in his free time, sit in front of a computer screen issuing statements and distributing patriotism to people who have lost their homes and families, and are living loss every minute, without food or drink, without security or safety, in squalid tents and displacement centers that have become health hazards.

..............

The people of Gaza have the right to demonstrate to stop the war, and no one has the right to blame them or question their actions, because what they have endured and endured is something no one has endured before.

Blood on the breakfast tables!

Ibrahim Melhem

Minutes before the call to prayer, signaling the start of the fast, martyrs were killed and dozens were wounded, most of them children and women, in a square in Nuseirat that had been designated for communal iftar meals. Meanwhile, the takayas were bombed, mixing blood and body parts with the soup in a scene that shook the soul to its core.

Fasting people spent the night on the edge of the desert, tents were drenched in the blood of victims, and the wounded breathed their last in their beds, enduring pain and suffering due to the hospitals' lack of life-saving supplies. Whoever is wounded dies, and the daily count is in the dozens.

For twenty-five days, no aid has entered, and those who have money have found nothing to buy, because everything is missing from the markets. Not even a loaf of bread is available, nor is a sip of water.

People are dying of fear, terror, starvation and intimidation. They are dying in queues for missing bread, and they are dying on whatever soup the poor can get at tables set up by charitable people whose charity is almost exhausted as the supplies for charity run out. The Gazans are facing their fate. In six days, more than seven hundred of them have died and hundreds have been wounded.

Perhaps more deadly than killing is the silence that the world has resorted to, along with the Arabs and Muslims who gathered for two consecutive summits, where they ate delicious food, before the gathering dispersed with a statement that was trampled under the treads of tanks, before its ink had even dried.

“You have no brothers, my brother, no friends, you have no water, no medicine, no sky, no blood,” said the late Palestinian poet during the siege, when the mask fell off the mask, as if the prophet of poetry had inspired him with what was to come.

Stop the genocide now...!

US authorities arrest Turkish PhD student for alleged support of Hamas

US immigration authorities arrested a Turkish doctoral student at Tufts University near Boston, Massachusetts, and revoked her visa after she expressed support for Palestinians during Israel's war on Gaza.

Rumeysa Ozturk, 30, left her Somerville home Tuesday evening to meet friends for the Ramadan iftar meal when she was arrested by Department of Homeland Security agents, according to attorney Mahsa Khanbabai in a motion filed in Boston federal court.

Ozturk's supporters say her arrest is the first known arrest of a Boston-area student involved in such activism under President Donald Trump.

The Trump administration has arrested, or sought to arrest, several foreign-born students legally residing in the United States who participated in pro-Palestinian protests.

These actions have been condemned as an assault on freedom of expression and the First Amendment to the US Constitution, although the Trump administration argues that some of the protests are anti-Semitic and contradict US foreign policy.

In turn, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the US Department of Homeland Security, said in statements to the X website that authorities concluded that Ozturk "engaged in activities that support Hamas, a foreign terrorist organization that delights in killing Americans."

“A visa is a privilege, not a right,” McLaughlin said.

The nature of these activities was not specified. However, Ozturk's arrest came a year after the student co-authored an opinion piece in the Tufts Daily, the university's student newspaper, in which she criticized Tufts' response to student calls to divest from companies linked to Israel and "recognize the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza."

"Based on the patterns we are seeing across the country, it appears that her exercise of her right to freedom of expression played a role in her arrest," Khanbabai said. According to eyewitnesses, her arrest appeared to be a form of kidnapping.

After Ozturk's arrest, Khanbabai filed a lawsuit late Tuesday, claiming she was unlawfully detained, prompting U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston that night to order U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) not to remove Ozturk from Massachusetts without at least 48 hours' advance notice.

Despite the judge's order, Khanbabai stated in a motion by Wednesday afternoon that she had been unable to locate her client in New England and had just been informed by a U.S. senator's office that Ozturk had been transferred to Louisiana. She sought a court order requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement to grant access to Ozturk.

Democratic lawmakers condemned the student's detention, including U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who said the arrest was "the latest in a disturbing pattern of civil liberties being suppressed." A rally was held later Wednesday in Somerville, where citizens, students, and university professors demanded Ozoturk's immediate release. Neighbors said the arrest, which occurred at 5:30 p.m. in a residential neighborhood, shocked them. "It looked like a kidnapping," said Michael Mathis, a 32-year-old software engineer whose surveillance camera captured the arrest. "They walked up to her and started grabbing her with their faces covered. They cover their faces. They were in unmarked cars."

The Trump administration has targeted international students in its efforts to crack down on immigration, including increasing migrant detentions and imposing strict restrictions on border crossings.

Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in particular, have vowed to deport foreign pro-Palestinian protesters, accusing them of supporting Hamas militants, obstructing US foreign policy, and being anti-Semitic.

Protesters, including some Jewish groups, say the administration is mistakenly conflating their criticism of Israel and support for Palestinian rights with anti-Semitism and support for Hamas.

Ozturk is a Fulbright Scholar and a doctoral student at Tufts University in Child and Human Development Studies, according to her LinkedIn profile, and has previously studied at Columbia University in New York.

She was in the country on an F-1 visa, which allows students to live in the United States while studying, according to the lawsuit.

In a statement, Tufts University President Sunil Kumar said the university had no prior knowledge of the arrest, which he acknowledged would be "troubling to some members of our community, particularly members of our international community."

Ozturk was detained less than three weeks after Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and lawful permanent resident, was similarly detained. He is challenging his detention after Trump accused him, without evidence, of supporting Hamas, a charge Khalil denies.

Federal immigration officials are also seeking to detain a Columbia University student, a South Korean-born legal permanent resident of the United States, who participated in pro-Palestinian protests, a move that has now been blocked by the courts.

A Lebanese physician and assistant professor at Brown University in Rhode Island was barred from returning to the United States this month and deported to Lebanon after the Trump administration claimed her phone contained photos "sympathetic" to Hezbollah. Rasha Alawieh said she does not support the group but respects its slain leader because of her faith. The Trump administration has also targeted students at Cornell University in New York and Georgetown University in Washington.

One Lebanese was killed when an Israeli drone targeted a car in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported early Thursday that one person was killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a car in the town of Maaroub in the south of the country.

In a brief statement, it said: "One person was killed and another was injured when an Israeli drone was targeted with a guided missile targeting a car in the town of Ma'aroub."

In a related development, the agency monitored Israeli artillery shelling on Thursday morning, targeting the town of Bahmar al-Shaqif in the Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon.

She pointed out that 6 shells fell at 7:15 a.m. (05:15 GMT) on the Al-Dabash neighborhood in the town of Bahmar Al-Shaqif, as a result of Israeli artillery shelling.

As of 06:30 (GMT), Israel has not commented on the attacks that have hit southern Lebanon since dawn.

Israel continues to target areas in southern Lebanon, claiming they are targeting Hezbollah targets, despite a ceasefire agreement in effect since November 2024.

Last Saturday, Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon after claiming that one of its settlements in the north had been subjected to a missile attack. Israel claimed the attack originated from the Lebanese side, while Hezbollah denied any connection.

Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Saturday killed seven people and injured 40 others, according to statistics compiled by Anadolu Agency based on official Lebanese sources.

Despite the ceasefire agreement being in effect, Israel committed 1,263 violations, leaving at least 100 dead and 331 injured, according to an Anadolu Agency tally based on official Lebanese data.

Israel has reneged on its commitment to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by February 18, contrary to the agreement. Instead, it has implemented a partial withdrawal and continues to occupy five major Lebanese hills, within the areas it occupied during the last war.

It has also recently begun establishing a border strip extending one or two kilometers inside Lebanese territory.

Yedioth Ahronoth: Israel will prevent the rebuilding of homes and roads it demolished in Jenin.

Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Israeli sources as saying that Israeli security services are working to reshape the situation in the West Bank with the aim of preserving the Israeli army's freedom of action within the camps.

Sources said the Israeli army demolished 200 homes in Jenin camp and opened new roads within the camp, stretching 5 kilometers, designated for the entry of Israeli vehicles.

She added that the Israeli army intends to prevent Palestinians from rebuilding demolished homes and roads to ensure that army forces can move quickly into the camp.

The sources confirmed that the Israeli military's Central Command has considered similar plans for 18 camps in the West Bank and are ready to implement them if necessary.

Yedioth Ahronoth quoted security sources as saying that one of the objectives of this operation was to obliterate the idea of asylum.

According to sources, the army has established a security buffer zone around the Jordan Valley to enhance control over the area in times of peace and emergency.

She also confirmed that the Israeli Central Command had taken measures to survey several roads across the Green Line and installed gates that would assist in the pursuit of wanted individuals.

Meanwhile, sources told Al Jazeera that approximately 21,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from the city of Jenin and its camp as the Israeli occupation continues its military operations for the 65th consecutive day.

Sources also confirmed to Al Jazeera that more than 4,000 Palestinian families have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps in the occupied West Bank, as the Israeli occupation continues its operations in the camps for the 59th day.

For its part, the Jenin Municipality stated that the occupation forces would begin demolishing 93 buildings in the Jenin refugee camp after forcing 1,000 Palestinians to leave their surroundings and converting some of their homes into military barracks.

The municipality said that an Israeli court rejected a petition it submitted to prevent the demolition of 93 buildings containing more than 300 housing units inside the camp.

It's worth noting that since January 21, the Israeli army has expanded its military operations—dubbed "Iron Wall"—into Palestinian refugee cities and camps in the northern West Bank, particularly in the governorates of Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas. According to the Ministry of Health, the operation has resulted in dozens of deaths, the displacement of tens of thousands, and widespread destruction of property, homes, and infrastructure.

The Israeli occupation warns residents of neighborhoods in Gaza to evacuate them in preparation for bombing them.

On Wednesday evening, the Israeli occupation army warned residents of neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip to evacuate their homes, pending bombardment, as part of the ongoing genocide against Palestinians, now in its 17th month.

The army's spokesman for the Arabic media, Avichay Adraee, addressed the residents of the western and eastern neighborhoods of Zeitoun, Tel al-Hawa, the Old City, Sheikh Ajlin, Sheikh, the expansion of influence, and the southern sands via the "X" platform.

"This is a final warning before an attack," he said.

He claimed that the evacuation decision came after rockets were fired from the area towards Israel.

He concluded by saying: "You must move immediately to the south of Wadi Gaza to the known shelters."

There are hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the neighborhoods designated by the Israeli army.

Israeli occupation continues its aggression on Tulkarm and its camp for the 60th consecutive day.

The Israeli aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp has entered its 60th day, and on the 47th day on the Nur Shams camp, amid ongoing military escalation, massive reinforcements, and forced displacement of residents.

According to local sources, occupation forces deployed large reinforcements of vehicles and bulldozers to the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, deployed across several neighborhoods, and imposed strict restrictions on the movement of citizens and vehicles.

In Tulkarm refugee camp, occupation forces deployed in the airport neighborhood and broke down the doors of several homes, amid extensive searches. This coincided with the continued displacement of residents of the al-Hadaida and al-Raba'a neighborhoods, who were expelled from their homes by occupation forces through threats and intimidation.

Tulkarm camp has recently witnessed a wave of displacement of residents from neighborhoods on the outskirts of the camp, amid ongoing hostilities and the tightening of the noose on residents, particularly in the neighborhoods of Al-Hadaida, Al-Matar, Al-Raba'a, Qaqun, and Marbat Hanoun.

Meanwhile, occupation forces forced residents of several homes belonging to the Abu Jamous family in the eastern neighborhood of the city, close to the Abu al-Foul neighborhood in the camp, to evacuate their homes, giving them a short period to leave.

In Nour Shams camp, the occupation has reinforced its military presence by deploying heavy machinery and bulldozers to Jabal al-Nasr, amidst a tight siege of the camp. It has also seized dozens of homes and converted them into military barracks after expelling their residents.

Local sources reported that occupation forces stormed the Al-Mahjar neighborhood last night, raiding homes belonging to the Fahmawi, Alian, and Abu Al-Saman families, after breaking their doors. Meanwhile, sounds of gunfire were heard in the Jabal Al-Nasr area, along with the dropping of flares in the Al-Manshiya neighborhood, and the widespread deployment of military vehicles in the Al-Manshiya and Al-Maslakh neighborhoods.

At the same time, Israeli bulldozers closed the second section of Nablus Street, which leads into the city, with earth mounds, two days after closing the first section, which leads outwards. Infantry units were deployed, preventing vehicles from passing through flying checkpoints, almost completely isolating the city from its surroundings and paralyzing traffic in the area.

As part of the ongoing aggression, the occupation continues to seize 10 residential buildings in the vicinity of the traffic circle area in the northern neighborhood adjacent to Nablus Street. The buildings, which house dozens of apartments, were forcibly evicted from their residents, and the buildings were transformed into military barracks, in addition to transforming the area into a closed military zone.

Tulkarm also witnessed intense activity by Israeli occupation forces, which were seen roaming the city center and its markets, obstructing the movement of vehicles and civilians.

The ongoing escalation by the occupation forces in the city of Tulkarm and its two camps has resulted in the martyrdom of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens have also been injured and arrested, and more than 4,000 families have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, along with dozens of families from the city's northern neighborhood.

The aggression also caused widespread destruction to infrastructure, vehicles, homes, and shops, which were subjected to total and partial demolition, burning, vandalism, looting, and theft. 396 homes were completely destroyed and 2,573 partially destroyed in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, in addition to closing their entrances and alleys with earth mounds.
