Islamic Cooperation and the European Union discuss developments in the Gaza Strip

Today, Wednesday, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, discussed in a telephone call with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, the ongoing Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip.


Taha called on the European Union to engage, as an active party on the international scene and a defender of international law and universal humanitarian values, in efforts aimed at stopping the Israeli military aggression against Palestinian civilians, opening humanitarian corridors that allow safe and continuous access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and providing protection for the people. The defenseless Palestinian, and urged Israel to respect its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law.

He also expressed his hope that the European Union would contribute to efforts to revive the peace path towards a two-state solution, allowing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.


For his part, Borrell stressed the urgent need for a truce to stop the war and allow humanitarian aid to reach continuous, rapid, safe and unhindered access to all those who need it through all means, including humanitarian corridors.


He added that the European Union will work closely with partners in the region to protect civilians, provide assistance, and facilitate the access of food, water, medical care, and fuel to the residents of Gaza. He also stressed the importance of working to find a just and comprehensive political solution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring security and stability in the region and the world.
