Jordan, U.S. discuss Palestinian cause and Syrian crisis

Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf on Sunday to discuss the Palestinian cause and the ongoing crisis in Syria.

The discussions came during an official visit by Leaf to Amman, according to the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

Leaf also added that the meeting was intended to "strengthen cooperation" between the two countries, building on a memorandum of understanding signed between the Kingdom of Jordan and the United States last year.

On his part, Safadi extended his gratitude for the U.S.' ongoing support for Jordan and its development process, economic challenges and the refugee crisis.

Last year, Washington agreed to provide financial assistance to the Kingdom of $1.45 billion per year from 2023 to 2029.
