Shtayyeh: The occupation deprives our people of their most basic rights

Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh said, "We are facing Israeli aggression and continuous war in various forms, against our people, our land, our water, our money, our narrative, and our Islamic and Christian sanctities, and that the Israeli occupation deprives our people of their most basic rights, as it places restrictions on movement with military checkpoints and walls, and denies us our right to elections and seizing our lands, demolishing homes and displacing their inhabitants.”

This came during his meeting with the European Union's Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamonn Gilmour, today, Wednesday, in his office in Ramallah, in the presence of the European Union's representative to Palestine, Sven Kon von Burgsdorff.

Shtayyeh asked: "How long will the international silence continue towards what is happening here in Palestine in terms of violations and measures of the occupation?", calling for an end to the international double standards regarding our cause, and holding Israel accountable for its crimes against our people.

He continued, "Since the beginning of the year, more than 160 martyrs, including 28 children and 6 women, have died at the hands of the occupation forces and settlers, and Israel continues to detain hundreds of martyrs in refrigerators and graves of numbers."

Shtayyeh pointed out that since 1967, Israel has uprooted 2.5 million trees from our lands, including 800 thousand olive trees, and there are now 751 thousand settlers in the West Bank, and the occupation government wants to raise their number to about one million settlers at the expense of our land, water and the lives of our children.

He called on the European Union and the international community to put pressure on Israel to obtain our right to hold elections in all Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.
