Manchester City champions Premier League after losing Arsenal

Manchester City ensured that it retained the English Premier League title after its direct chaser Arsenal lost to its host Nottingham Forest 0-1 on Saturday in the penultimate thirty-seventh stage.

Nigerian Taiwo Owonyi scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute, so Arsenal's balance frozen at 81 points, four points behind City, who hosts Chelsea on Sunday, noting that he has a postponed match against Brighton, which he will play next Wednesday.
It is the third consecutive title for Manchester City and the fifth in the last six seasons.

It is also the first title for Manchester City this season in its quest for a rare hat-trick achieved only by its arch-rival and neighbor Manchester United in 1999 when it won the league, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Manchester City reached the final match of the Champions League competition at the expense of Real Madrid, the Spanish champion and record holder (14), and set a date with Italian Inter Milan on the tenth of next June in Istanbul. He also reached the final match of the FA Cup competition, where he will meet his neighbor United in the third of next month.

On the other hand, Arsenal, who topped the league for a long time, came out empty-handed this season.

It is the second loss in a row for Arsenal and the sixth this season, and his only consolation remains his summer and his return to participating in the prestigious continental competition.

His Spanish coach Mikel Arteta said after the match, "First of all, congratulations to Manchester City for winning the championship but it's a sad day for us. We gave a goal (to Nottingham) today and we weren't good enough to break through their defence. Even if we played for three hours, we wouldn't succeed in shaking them up." Their nets, it's my responsibility and I take it."

He added, "This is football, it is a very sad day, we worked for 11 months for this goal (the coronation) and we were in first place for a long time. We struggled, but it was not enough, it is very painful."

On the other hand, Nottingham Forest ensured its survival in the Premier League after raising its score to 37 points in the sixteenth place, four points ahead of the seventeenth Everton.

Newcastle United and Manchester United, who won 1-0 at Bournemouth, are on the verge of settling the last two cards that qualify for the Champions League competition next season, after their only direct competitor, Liverpool, fell into a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.

And Aston Villa rendered a great service to Newcastle and Manchester United, as they became one point away from their remaining matches to ensure being among the top four, while only one match remained for Liverpool.

And Aston Villa braked its host, Liverpool, and prevented it from winning the eighth in a row, and continuing to put pressure on Newcastle and Manchester United.
Liverpool is superior to Manchester United by goal difference (+28 vs. +11), while Newcastle is superior to it (+35), but they played one less game than him and now need only one point.

Newcastle has the opportunity to settle its card on Monday when it hosts the penultimate nineteenth Leicester City at the end of the stage, and if it fails to do so, it will have the opportunity again next Sunday against its host Chelsea.

For his part, Manchester United will try to secure his card next Thursday when it hosts Chelsea in a postponed match from the thirty-second stage, before hosting Fulham next Sunday in the last stage.

Liverpool will play its last match in the league next Sunday against its host, Southampton, the first to be relegated to the Championship, and it seems that the “Reds” will settle for fifth place, and thus the European League ticket, “Europa League”.

Manchester United took a big step towards the Champions League by defeating Bournemouth with a wonderful goal by Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro in the ninth minute with an acrobatic shot from close range, following a cross by Danish international Christian Eriksen.

On the other hand, Liverpool's chances of being present in the prestigious continental competition, which won its title six times, the last of which was in 2019, diminished, with a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa.

And Aston Villa got a penalty kick in the 20th minute after Ollie Watkins was blocked inside the area by French international defender Ibrahima Konate, so he paid it himself and hit it next to the left post (22).

But the guests were not late in opening the scoring through Jacob Ramsey, following a pass from Brazilian Douglas Luiz, who followed it from close range into the empty goal (27).

Liverpool, who was absent from the bench of his German coach Jürgen Klopp, rushed because of the two-match suspension due to questioning the integrity of the arbitration and followed it from the stands, in search of a tie, so he scored a goal through Dutchman Cody Khakpo, canceled due to offside (55), before his Brazilian international substitute Roberto Firmino saved him with a pass. Decisive from Egyptian international Mohamed Salah (89).
Liverpool continued its pressure in the ten minutes that were counted as stoppage time, to no avail.

Firmino's last match with Liverpool was at Anfield, after he decided to leave at the end of the season at the end of his contract, along the lines of James Milner, Guinean Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

The quartet had an honorable passage to their colleagues after the end of the match, amid applause from the fans.

And the Colombian international defender Yerry Mina kept the slim hopes of his team, Everton, to avoid relegation for the first time since 1954, when he scored the equalizer against his host, Wolverhampton, in the penultimate ninth minute of stoppage time, after the owner of the land was ahead with the goal of the South Korean He-Chan Huang ( 34).

Everton remained in the seventeenth place with 33 points, two points ahead of the eighteenth Leeds United, who is a guest at West Ham on Sunday, and three points against Leicester City, who plays with Newcastle on Monday.

And Tottenham deepened his wounds this season after suffering a surprising new loss against his guest, Brentford, 1-3.

This is the fifth loss in the last seven matches for the North London club, who fell to eighth place, after Aston Villa drew with Liverpool.
The team of the interim coach, Ryan Mason, took the lead early through his international scorer, Harry Kane, from a wonderful long free kick, raising his tally to 28 goals this season, in second place in the scorers’ ranking (8).

But Brentford responded in the second half via a double from Cameroonian Brian Mboimo (50 and 62), before the Democratic Congolese Yoan Wissa settled the score from close range (88), in light of hostile cheers and banners from the Tottenham fans towards their management, which abandoned Italian coach Antonio Conte in the middle of the season. .

Brentford played without striker Evan Toni (21 goals), who was suspended for eight months for violating betting rules, but Brentford strengthened its ninth position, a point behind Tottenham, with a fourth victory in the last five matches.

The second London derby between Fulham and Crystal Palace ended in a draw with two goals for Serbian Alexander Mitrović (45 + 5 from a penalty kick and 61) against two goals for French Odson Edouard (34) and Joel Ward (83).

Sunday also plays Brighton with Southampton.
