Iraq and Tunisia begin to evacuate their nationals from Sudan

Today (Sunday) , the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs began evacuating Iraqi citizens from Sudan due to the ongoing conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces .


"We succeeded in evacuating 14 Iraqi citizens from Khartoum to a safe location in the Port Sudan region, at their request, and we are continuing our multilateral efforts to evacuate the remaining numbers," said Ahmed al-Sahhaf, spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, in a statement.
"We are working with a national response and coordinating around the clock with the honorable community in Khartoum," he added.


He explained that hot numbers have been allocated to receive calls and respond to the appeals of the Iraqi community, despite the difficult situation there.
He stressed that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein directed to maximize the collective effort of the Iraqi embassies in Khartoum, Cairo and Abu Dhabi to expedite coordination and response with sister countries to facilitate the evacuation of the Iraqi community in Sudan.


Al-Sahhaf called on the Iraqi community in Khartoum to register immediately to return to Iraq by contacting the numbers of the Iraqi embassy there.


He revealed that the number of the Iraqi community in Sudan amounts to 300 people, stressing that the ministry is preparing for the second phase of the evacuation.


Yesterday (Saturday), a number of foreign and Arab countries began evacuating their nationals from Sudan, in light of the clashes that erupted since April 15 in Khartoum and a number of Sudanese states between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which caused hundreds of victims and injuries, and severe material damage.


The two parties to the conflict exchanged accusations of attacks against some diplomatic missions in Sudan.


And the Sudanese army announced yesterday (Saturday) that several countries will immediately evacuate their diplomats and nationals.


The Sudanese army commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, pledged, according to a statement issued by the Sudanese army yesterday, to facilitate and secure the evacuation of foreign nationals and diplomatic missions from the country.


As of yesterday, the total number of people killed in armed clashes has reached more than 424 and 3,730 wounded, according to the Sudanese Ministry of Health.
