Champions League: Manchester City and Inter to the semi-finals at the expense of Bayern and Benfica

Both Manchester City and Inter of Italy reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League , with the first draw 1-1 at Bayern Munich and the second with Portugal's Benfica 3-3 on Wednesday in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

In the first match at the “Allianz Arena”, Bayern needed Rimontada to compensate for its heavy loss in the first leg, 3-0, but it did not happen and settled for a draw.

The Norwegian Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the guests (57) after wasting a penalty kick in the first half, while Joshua Kimmich equalized for the landlords with a penalty kick (83).

The England champion set a semi-final date with Real Madrid, the Spanish champions and the record number of titles (14), which eliminated Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate.

The meeting between City and Real will be renewed in the semi-finals, similar to last season, in the same round, when the Royals qualified 6-5 on aggregate.

City, runners-up in European Championship 2021, remained on track to achieve the treble this season, as it is still at the center of the struggle for the English Premier League title with Arsenal and is in the semi-finals of the local cup on Saturday.

City became the first team to score on Bayern's land in the Champions League this season, after the Bavarian achieved four victories from four matches in the continental competition with a clean sheet, including against Barcelona of Spain, Inter of Italy, and then Paris Saint-Germain of France in the final price.

Bayern is going through a shaky period after the dismissal of its coach Julian Nagelsmann, with whom he achieved the full mark in the Champions League (8 wins out of 8 matches), and the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, who contented himself with his leadership with two wins against two defeats and two draws in six matches, and with him he exited the continental competition and the local cup and is two points ahead of Borussia. Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
"We suffered in the first half against a big team, but we defended well before things got better in the second half," City coach Pep Guardiola said.

Bayern escaped an early expulsion after the referee announced the beginning of the direct red card in the face of French defender Daewoo Upamecano for blocking Haaland, who was on his way to the goal alone, before he canceled it after it became clear that the Norwegian was offside (19).
Upamecano caused a penalty kick after he touched the ball with his hand following a shot from German Ilkay Gundogan, but Haaland missed the attempt after he hit the ball over the crossbar (37).

This is the first time that Haaland has missed a penalty kick since his arrival at City at the beginning of the season and the first in 16 attempts at the club level, and the last failure dates back to April 2021 when he was still in the ranks of Borussia Dortmund against Union Berlin in the German League.

And the bad evening continued for Obamecano after he fell in front of Haaland when a ball reached the Norwegian from Belgian Kevin De Bruyne and penetrated into the area. He took advantage of the Frenchman's fall and hit a ball in the middle of the net (55), scoring his 48th goal in 41 matches in all competitions this season.

This is Haaland's 35th goal in the Champions League in 27 games, and he became the fastest player in history to reach this number, a distance from the previous number (42 games for Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy).

Then Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel paid Davis instead of Cancelo and Senegalese Sadio Mane, who was punished by his club by stopping him from the league match against Hoffenheim last week (1-1) after an argument with Sanneh after the loss against City.

According to German newspapers, Mane punched Sanneh in the face to drain blood from the latter's lip.

The Bavarian gets a penalty kick for touching Swiss Manuel Akanji, Kimmich successfully translated them (83).

And at the San Siro stadium, Inter was on its way to renew its victory over Benfica, Portugal, when it advanced 3-1 until the 86th minute, before the latter equalized 3-3 in the last breath.

Inter returned with a valuable victory from Benfica last week in Lisbon.

Niccolo Barella (14), Argentine Lautaro Martinez (66) and compatriot Joachim Correa (78) scored Inter goals, Frederick Ursense (38), Antonio Silva (86) and Croatian Petar Musa (90 + 5) scored Benfica's goals.

Inter will meet its neighbor in the same city, Milan, in the semi-finals, after the latter overcame its compatriot, Napoli, the leaders of the local league, by beating it 1-0 in the first leg, then drawing it 1-1 in the second leg.
The two teams played the match with a loss in the domestic league, as Inter fell 0-1 to Montsa and Benfica to Chaves, with the same result.

Inter, who was the last Italian team to win the title when it was crowned the most important continental title in 2010, led by Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, opened the scoring after a coordinated attack that reached Niccolo Barella inside the area, so he manipulated Benfica's defense and hit a ball with his left in the far corner (14).

But Benfica managed to equalize with a wonderful header from Orsens, taking advantage of a cross pass from Rafa Silva (38).
But Inter thwarted any hope for Benfica to return in the two matches by scoring the second goal through Martinez, taking advantage of a cross, so he followed it up from close range into the net (66).

Inter, who is suffering in the domestic league, added the second goal by substitute Korea (78).

And Benfica refused to come out losers from the match, so the difference was reduced by Antonio Silva with a header (86), before substitute Petar Musa equalized in the last minute of stoppage time.

The two teams met 5 times in the Champions League, Inter won twice and drew three times.
