Italian Championship: Roma finishes third and falls second to Juventus

Roma finished third in the Italian Football League by defeating Udinese 3-0, while Juventus fell for the second match in a row by losing 0-1 against Sassuolo, in the 30th stage competition on Sunday.

The capital team took the lead through Eduardo Bovi, who followed the ball from a penalty kick that Brian Cristante hit and bounced off the post (37) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (55).

Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio deprived the guests of reducing the difference by saving a penalty kick taken by Argentine Roberto Perea (69), before adding English substitute striker Tammy Abraham III with a header (90 + 2).

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho's team was alone in third place with 56 points, three ahead of Milan IV, who contented themselves with a draw with Bologna at this stage, and five points behind Lazio II.

And in light of Napoli moving away from the lead on its way to the first league title since 1990, the other three places are witnessing a struggle, despite the slight comfort of Lazio.

Inter, who fell in front of Montsa on Saturday, ranks fifth with 51 points, and Atalanta will be able to catch up with him if he beats his host Fiorentina on Monday at the end of the stage.

Roma entered the match after falling Thursday against its Dutch host Feyenoord 1-0 in the first leg of the European League quarter-finals, “Europa League”, before the return match at the Olympic Stadium next week.

For his part, and after falling last week away from home against Lazio 2-1, Juventus suffered, on Sunday, its seventh defeat in “Serie A” this season, with the goal of Frenchman Gregoire Defrel in the 64th minute.

Despite deducting 15 points from his balance this season for recording exaggerated financial gains regularly in his accounts when selling some players, Juventus achieved good results that enabled him to compete for the last two places qualifying for the Champions League.
And if he succeeded in winning the last two matches, the difference between him and Milan IV would be only three points, but he finds himself 9 points away from the Rossoneri.

And in the event that he fails to qualify for the main continental competition through the league gate, the opportunity is available to him through the European League title, as he entered Sunday’s match after defeating Sporting 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals, Thursday, before the return match in Portugal next week.

In two other matches, the sixteenth Lecce tied with bottom Sampdoria and the twelfth Torino with the fifteenth Salernitana with the same result 1-1.
