Statistics: The consumer price index continues to rise
The Central Bureau of Statistics said that the consumer price index in Palestine increased by 1.31% during the month of March, compared to February.
The statistics indicated, in a press release, that this increase came as a result of the increase in the prices of dried vegetables by 16.76%, fresh meat by 2.70%, fresh vegetables by 2.10%, fresh fruits by 1.57%, and eggs by 1.20%, despite the decrease in the price of fresh chicken by 4.54%. %, and potato prices by 3.72%.
He pointed out that the rise in the prices of some basic commodities had the greatest impact on the rise in this indicator, as the prices of the following commodities increased to reach an average; Onions 4 shekels/kg, lamb 86 shekels/kg, persimmons 9 shekels/kg, hot green peppers 9 shekels/kg, broad green beans 13 shekels/kg, cucumbers 6 shekels/kg, grape leaves 30 shekels/kg, and eggs 20 2 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the price of chicken to 17 shekels/kg, and potatoes to 3 shekels/kg.
And he indicated that the increase in the consumer price index in Palestine during last March, compared to March 2022, increased by 4.32% (5.13% in the West Bank, 4.48% in Jerusalem, and 1.69% in the Gaza Strip).
High cost of living index in the Gaza Strip:
Statistics reported that the consumer price index in the Gaza Strip increased by 1.75% during March, compared with February, due to the increase in the prices of: fresh vegetables by 6.79%, eggs by 5.37%, fresh meat by 3.58%, and fresh fruits by 2.20%. %, dried vegetables by 2.09%, rice by 1.38%, and fresh chicken by 1.27%, despite the decrease in potato prices by 4.38%.
He explained that the prices of the following commodities in the Gaza Strip rose to an average; Hot green peppers 11 shekels/kg, okra 34 shekels/kg, grape leaves 25 shekels/kg, eggs 16 shekels/2kg, bananas 4 shekels/kg, avocados 5 shekels/kg, onions and cucumbers 3 shekels/kg each, and grain rice Taweelah is 34 shekels/5kg, lamb is 57 shekels/kg, and chicken is 16 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the price of potatoes to two shekels/kg.
High cost of living index in the West Bank:
The CPI said that the consumer price index in the West Bank (excluding Jerusalem) increased by 1.21% during March 2023 compared to February 2023. This is due to the increase in the prices of dried vegetables by 26.15%, the prices of fresh meat by 3.08%, and the prices of fresh vegetables. By 1.15%, despite the decrease in the prices of fresh chicken by 7.01%, and the prices of potatoes by 2.84%.
He added that the prices of the following commodities in the West Bank rose to average; Onions 6 shekels/kg, lamb 84 shekels/kg, hot green pepper 8 shekels/kg, broad green beans 15 shekels/kg, and grape leaves 32 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the price of chicken to 18 shekels/kg, and potatoes to 18 shekels/kg. 4 shekels/kg.

The statistics indicated that the consumer price index in Jerusalem recorded an increase of 1.13% during March 2023 compared to February 2023, as a result of the increase in the prices of: dried vegetables by 38.25%, fresh fruits by 5.36%, and fresh chicken by 3.49%, despite the decrease in prices. Potatoes by 8.71%, fresh vegetables by 2.85%, and eggs by 1.60%.
The prices of the following commodities also increased in Jerusalem, reaching an average; Onions 6 shekels/kg, clementines 4 shekels/kg, cocoa 20 shekels/kg, pomegranate 10 shekels/kg, kiwi 13 shekels/kg, and chicken 23 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the price of potatoes to 5 shekels/kg, and tomatoes to only 6 shekels/kg, and eggs to 32 shekels/kg.
