French Championship: Saint-Germain regains its winning streak, six points ahead of Lens

Paris Saint-Germain regained its six-point lead over its direct rival, Lens, which it will meet next week, by defeating its host, Nice, with two clean goals, on Saturday, in the thirtieth stage of the French Football Championship .

And Saint-Germain raised its score to 69 points, compared to 63 for Lens, who won Strasbourg 2-1 on Friday, in the opening stage.

Nice entered the match unbeaten in its last 14 matches in various competitions (8 wins and 6 draws), which is the second best series in its history after the first between August and November 1984. Nor has it lost in the last 10 matches it played at home. In the league (5 wins and 5 draws).

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos played his 400th match with his team, becoming the third most represented player in his ranks in various competitions after Jean-Marc Bellorget (435) and Italian Marco Verratti (409).
On the other hand, Christophe Galtier, coach of the capital team, was facing his former team.

Galtier is facing great pressure on the head of the technical staff of Saint-Germain, especially after his exit from the Champions League, with his team losing back and forth in the final price against Bayern Munich, and the level of his team has declined in recent weeks after losing two consecutive matches at home to Rennes and Lyon in the last two stages.

And after the Portuguese Danilo hit the post with a header (22), Argentine Lionel Messi, who was booed by Saint-Germain supporters in the last two matches, succeeded in scoring, taking advantage of a cross pass from the Portuguese Nuno Mendes (26).
Messi raised his tally to 14 goals in the league this season, with 13 assists as well.

Nice responded with shy attempts in general, before Italian Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma brilliantly saved a cunning header from Terim Movie in the last minute of the first half.

Nice pressed at the beginning of the second half, and Brazilian defender Dante almost equalized, but his ball hit the crossbar and then the post before Marquinhos distracted the danger (51).

Saint-Germain succeeded in settling the score in his favor when Messi raised a corner kick that was hit by veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos above everyone else and headed it into the net (76).

Angers, bottom of the standings, scored their first victory since last September, after beating Lille 1-0.

Angers raised its score to 14 points, but it is still strongly threatened with relegation to the second division, because it lags behind the last survivor of Auxerre, by 12 points, eight stages before the end of the league.
As for the fifth night, it missed the opportunity to tighten the pressure, even temporarily, on the fourth Monaco, which meets Nantes on Sunday, as it remained behind the Principality team by 5 points.

The last victory of Angers dates back to September 18, 2022, when it defeated Nice in the last home, to end a series of 21 matches without any victory.

Lille was the best party for most of the match and had possession of the ball by 67 percent, but without effectiveness, as it collided with an organized defensive bloc, behind which was the brilliant goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni, who saved more than one dangerous attempt for the northern team, specifically in front of Angel Gomez (5, 34 and 55), and also starred in the defense off his goal when he turned away a powerful ball from Canadian Jonathan David (70).
Bosnian substitute Halid Sabanović scored the match's only goal in the 84th minute.
