Student Shahd Labada from An-Najah University qualifies as part of the national student team to participate in the quantum computing hackathon in Abu Dhabi

The Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Information Technology from the College of Engineering and Information Technology at An-Najah National University participated in the activities of the first national hackathon in quantum computing, which was launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with the Palestinian Computing Committee .


The activities of the first Palestinian computing hackathon were launched at the headquarters of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Ramallah, in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Isaac Sidr, and Dr. Musa Farajallah, Chairman of the Palestinian Computing Committee, and from An-Najah University, Dr. Anas Tohme, and Dr. Osman Osman, and Dr. Bakr Abdel-Haq, and a team of computer engineering and information technology students.


120 male and female students and professors from all Palestinian universities, including Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, participated in the hackathon. The student, Shahad Labada , from the computer engineering program at An-Najah University, qualified to participate in the national student team in the quantum computing hackathon in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Bakr Abdel Haq from the Information Technology Department to train and accompany the national team to Abu Dhabi.


Prizes were also presented in the form of fees for computer training courses from Microsoft, and fees for holding exams for international certificates to the rest of the students participating in the hackathon.


For his part, Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at An-Najah University, expressed his happiness with this distinguished achievement of the faculty in this competition, the first of its kind in Palestine.


Dr. confirmed. Hussein, that this type of achievement comes within the college and university's vision to integrate students into the labor market, and provide them with personal and technical skills that help them develop their abilities to meet the various needs and requirements of the labor market.


In turn, Dr. confirmed. Anas Tohme, a member of the Committee for the Preparation and Arbitration of the Quantum Computing Hackathon, stressed the need for students to participate in local and international competitions because of its importance in providing them with basic skills and information in various fields, especially new ones such as the field of quantum computing. He wished the national student team to obtain advanced positions globally.


He thanked Dr. Othman and Dr. Abdul Haq for their efforts in training and preparing the participating team, and to the university administration for providing the necessary resources to facilitate student participation.


It is noteworthy that this hackathon was prepared for the participation of the Palestinian team in the international hackathon in the United Arab Emirates to learn about quantum computing and the use of quantum-based technologies to solve complex algorithms, and work on developing solutions using quantum computers and creating applications that It is concerned with health, education, business and science affairs to serve society in the Arab world and the rest of the world.
