Reactivation of Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut's Twitter account
Washington (AFP) - Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut 's Twitter account has been reactivated after it was banned from the platform for two years for violating the social media site's policy against hate speech.
Thus, the 35-year-old Indian actress joins thousands of people who, after billionaire Elon Musk acquired the platform last October, were able to return to Twitter after they were prevented from using their accounts, including former US President Donald Trump.
"Hello everyone, it's good to be back on stage," Ranaut tweeted on Tuesday, before launching a series of tweets criticizing the Indian film industry as "money obsessed."
The actress, who won two awards for her roles in “Queen” in 2014 and “Tanno Weds Manu Returns” in 2015, has raised controversy several times.
In May 2021, she was banned from using her Twitter account after calling Mamata Banerjee, an opposition figure to Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi for whom the actress shows great support, a "monster".
Kangana Ranaut had previously also attacked singer Rihanna after the latter tweeted about massive protests launched by farmers in India, describing the pop star as "idiots" and farmers as "terrorists".
