While people are suffocating and the area of the country, surrounded by shifting yellow lines at times, and at other times by isolation and apartheid gates that cut off the rural belt from the north of the West Bank to its south, and from its east to its west, and amidst frantic theft operations of livestock, water, and the food basket in Area (C).. At the same time that the occupation army and the settlers' army are alternating in rapid and terrifying geographical and demographic decisive operations in the West Bank, and the threat of starvation and displacement looms over those confined to one-third of the afflicted Strip's area; at this time when people are enduring their pains, the debate intensifies around the priorities of the stage.. between elections intended to renew legitimacy, or agreements that are extremely difficult to achieve, to end years of estrangement that caused people suffering whose thread has not been cut for over a thousand days, and between managing our affairs with what little money is available in our leaky piggy bank to maintain the sustainability of services, especially in the education and health sectors.I was struck by what Dr. Ghassan Al-Khatib wrote in his article published today on page three, and the ideas it contained that deserve attention, and placing a set of red lines under them, especially those related to the danger of "silent annexation" of villages and towns, and the intimidation, terrorization, and deliberate impoverishment that the good villagers in those villages are subjected to; through cutting down their trees, stealing their sheep, and demolishing their homes, which are the pegs that keep them rooted in their land against the fierce winds of "decisive action" that blow upon them day and night. And here the question arises: What is the benefit of a homeland without citizens? And what is our need for elections without voters? It is an urgent and pressing necessity today to place this item at the forefront of the agenda of the weekly government meetings, and the periodic meetings of the Executive and Central Committees. All national parties should engage, with a unified media discourse in which all media outlets and social networks participate locally, regionally, and internationally, as part of a battle to protect and empower people in the targeted villages and towns in the West Bank, in parallel with working to stop the war of extermination in Gaza, and enabling thousands of sick and wounded to travel abroad for treatment, and mobilizing an international, official, and popular effort to achieve this goal. And if the ijtihad of scholars has settled on the principle that "necessities permit prohibitions" as a fundamental principle in the jurisprudence of priorities, then it is permissible for us today to exercise ijtihad by analogy to adjust the national priorities agenda according to what the acceleration of events and their degree of danger dictate, for existential risks permit adjusting the national priorities ladder. It is not a priority at all to be preoccupied with the type of furniture, or the quality of the tiles, or the desired curtain colors for furnishing the house, while raging fires consume its roof and walls!
