The Bedouin village of Al-Tabana, located in the vicinity of Khan al-Ahmar area east of occupied Jerusalem, was subjected to a violent attack by Israeli settlers on Friday evening, resulting in injuries among Palestinian citizens. Official sources in Jerusalem Governorate reported that one of the settlers deliberately ran over two Palestinians with a motorized vehicle, causing them bruises and various injuries, while another settler sprayed toxic pepper spray at a group of young men in the area.
Following the attack, Israeli army forces stormed the village to provide protection for the settlers and arrested four Palestinian citizens. These arrests came after the villagers confronted a group of settlers attempting to steal flocks of sheep belonging to local residents, as part of the systematic policy of harassment practiced by settler groups against Bedouin communities.
This field escalation coincides with dangerous Israeli political decisions, as the Ministerial Committee for National Security Affairs ('the Cabinet') recently approved a plan to build 13 new settlements in the heart of the West Bank. Palestinian parties warned that this step directly aims to dismember Palestinian governorates and completely isolate the occupied city of Jerusalem from its geographical surroundings.
Khan al-Ahmar area is considered one of the most targeted areas for settlement projects due to its strategic location connecting the north and south of the West Bank. International and Palestinian reports confirm that any displacement of the residents of this area would definitively eliminate the chances of establishing a geographically contiguous Palestinian state, which the occupation authorities seek to impose as a fait accompli through continuous settlement expansion.
In a related context to the violations in the southern West Bank, the Israeli army established a new military outpost in the 'Al-Kuraiseh' area, affiliated with the city of Dura in Hebron Governorate. This step aims to enhance military control and facilitate the movement of settlers in agricultural areas that witness daily attacks, including burning crops and preventing farmers from accessing their lands.
Madar, the Palestinian Center for Israeli Studies, revealed an unprecedented surge in the pace of establishing settlement outposts in recent years. Data showed that the annual average of outpost establishment increased from only 8 outposts in the last decade to 86 new settlement outposts in 2025, reflecting a sharp acceleration in the confiscation of Palestinian lands and the legitimization of random outposts.
Official statistics indicate that the West Bank has been in a state of turmoil since October 8, 2023, due to joint military operations between the army and settlers. This continuous aggression has resulted in the martyrdom of 1,175 Palestinians and the injury of about 13,000 others, in addition to arrest campaigns targeting 24,000 citizens, and forced displacement affecting 33,000 people from their homes and lands.
International law affirms that all settlement activities in the occupied territories are illegal and constitute a war crime, and the United Nations considers them the biggest obstacle to achieving peace. Despite international condemnation, the Israeli government continues to support settler militias and provide them with legal and military cover to carry out their attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property throughout the West Bank.
Displacing the residents of Khan al-Ahmar will sever geographical communication between the northern and southern West Bank, undermining the chances of establishing a Palestinian state.
