Two Palestinian children died on Friday as a result of the severe cold wave hitting the Gaza Strip, arriving at Al-Shifa Hospital already deceased.
For the third consecutive day, the polar air depression "Byron" is affecting the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the difficult humanitarian conditions experienced by survivors of the Israeli war.
A medical source reported that the 9-year-old girl, Hadeel Hamdan, arrived at Al-Shifa Hospital dead, having succumbed to the severe cold and bad weather conditions.
According to the source and eyewitnesses, the girl and her family were staying in a school that had been converted into a displacement center, amid difficult living conditions and a severe shortage of heating.
The infant, Tim Al-Khawaja, who was living with his family in the remains of their home damaged by a previous Israeli bombing in the Al-Shati camp, west of Gaza City, also died as a result of the severe cold.
With these two deaths, the number of children who have died as a result of the cold in Gaza since the beginning of the air depression on Wednesday has risen to three, as the Director-General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir Al-Bursh, confirmed that one death of a child was recorded due to the repercussions of the air depression and cold during the past two days.
On Thursday, the infant Rahaf Abu Jazar died in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Strip, as a result of the cold and her tent being flooded with rainwater.
The child Hadeel Hamdan and the infant Tim Al-Khawaja died due to the severe cold and the lack of heating in the displacement locations.
