Building collapses in Gaza due to heavy rains exacerbate the suffering of displaced people

Gaza City witnessed the collapse of three buildings in separate areas, as a result of the heavy rains that have fallen on the Strip since Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the collapses occurred in three buildings located in the western part of Gaza City, and these buildings were shelters for a number of Palestinians who were displaced to them due to the lack of available housing alternatives, and there were no reports of injuries.

The Civil Defense issued a statement warning of the danger of the collapse of damaged and dilapidated buildings to which displaced families have resorted, especially with the continued impact of the air depression that is hitting the Strip, accompanied by heavy rains that lead to soil erosion and exacerbate cracks in the walls and columns damaged by the bombing.

In the past twenty-four hours, the Civil Defense in Gaza received more than 2,500 distress calls from displaced people whose tents were flooded by rainwater as a result of the stormy air depression, according to what was stated by the spokesman for the agency, Mahmoud Basal.

With the increasing strength of the air depression since dawn on Wednesday, thousands of tents sheltering displaced people in various areas of the Strip were flooded, after heavy rains fell, with expectations that the stormy weather will continue until Friday evening.

This air depression comes at a time when displaced people are living in tragic humanitarian conditions as a result of a lack of basic necessities of life, difficulty in obtaining essential needs, and the deterioration of vital services due to the Israeli siege imposed on the Strip.

Despite the end of the war of genocide and the entry into force of the ceasefire on the tenth of last October, the living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza have not improved due to the strict restrictions imposed by Israel on the entry of aid trucks, in a clear violation of the humanitarian protocol of the agreement.
