An official report issued in Israel revealed the deteriorating living conditions of Palestinian prisoners inside prisons, where they suffer from a severe shortage of food, severe overcrowding, and deteriorating health conditions.
The report, prepared by the Public Defender's Office of the Israeli Ministry of Justice and published on Thursday, was based on visits made by representatives of the office to a number of prisons.
The Public Defender's Office concluded that "the detention conditions of security prisoners (Palestinians) have deteriorated significantly since October 2023."
The office pointed out that "after the outbreak of the war, the police put in place a meager food menu for security prisoners," according to the "Haaretz" newspaper.
The report explained that this situation "caused them severe hunger, which is manifested in severe weight loss and phenomena including severe physical weakness and fainting."
In addition, the Public Defender's Office stated that "the increase in the number of prisoners and detainees has exacerbated the problem of overcrowding in prisons."
The report indicated that "as a result, 90 percent of prisoners are held in living areas of less than three square meters, and thousands of them do not have beds to sleep on."
