The Ministry of Justice of the occupation announced on Thursday the indictment of "terrorism" against a settler accused of beating a Palestinian woman with a stick, causing her serious injuries in an incident that occurred in the village of Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Charges related to terrorism are rarely brought against settlers in the area, which adds significance to this judicial decision.
The incident took place during the olive harvest season and was documented by one of the foreign volunteers accompanying the Palestinians.
The footage spread widely on social media.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since Hamas's attack on the occupation in October 2023.
The United Nations described last October as the worst in terms of settler violence since 2006, with 264 attacks recorded.
The indictment, which was conveyed by the Ministry of Justice, detailed the crime: the accused is Ariel Dahari (24 years old) from the settlement of "Oz Yair".
The facts of the assault confirm that he "attacked a Palestinian woman and others among the olive pickers in an olive field."
The indictment added that he "struck the woman on her head and body using a wooden stick, and continued to beat her even after she fell to the ground," causing her severe injuries.
Dahari faces several charges including: "terrorist acts that intentionally caused serious injuries," "terrorist acts committed within an organized group," and "deliberate damage to a vehicle motivated by racism."
More than 500,000 settlers live in settlements in the occupied West Bank, which the United Nations considers illegal under international law.
The indictment of "terrorism" against a settler is a rare point in judicial dealings, reflecting the extent of international and media pressure on the authorities to hold perpetrators accountable amid rising settler violence.
