AFP: The United States requests Yemen to join the international force in Gaza.

Yemeni officials reported that the United States has requested the internationally recognized Yemeni government to join the international force scheduled to be deployed in the Gaza Strip as part of President Donald Trump's peace plan.

This comes amid significant obstacles facing the implementation of the plan due to countries' hesitance to participate in a force that may clash with Palestinian factions.

The deployment of a stabilization force was approved by the UN Security Council on Monday, which voted in favor of Trump's plan that stipulates, after the exchange of detainees and prisoners, the deployment of an international stabilization force in the sector.

This force will undertake several missions, the most important of which are securing the borders with the occupation and Egypt, disarming Gaza, and stripping 'non-state armed groups' of their weapons.

Several Yemeni government sources reported that the Yemeni government has not yet made its decision in this regard.

A senior military official clarified that 'Yemen's participation in the international force was discussed with the Americans, but we have not yet received an official request' to join the force.

The official in the presidential council and Yemeni diplomat indicated that any contribution to the force 'would be largely symbolic.'

The diplomat stated: 'If we participate, it will not exceed sending a number of officers or soldiers to the operations room... for logistical purposes. They will not participate in any other operations.'

A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department did not directly respond to an AFP question regarding the request, stating: 'We will not get into the details of private diplomatic discussions.'

The participation of the Yemeni government, which is experiencing an internal conflict with the Iran-backed Houthis, is likely to provoke the anger of the Houthis, who also oppose the establishment of this force.
