U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the peace agreement in Gaza "could be the greatest achievement he has ever participated in," during a phone interview conducted from aboard Air Force One while heading to Israeli-occupied territories.
Trump clarified that he would carry in his speech to the Israelis "a message of love and peace forever," noting that Israel was preparing to release the last twenty living hostages held by Hamas.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the Israeli genocide that lasted nearly two years has claimed the lives of over 67,000 Palestinians, while more than 170,000 others have been injured since October 7, 2023.
Trump spoke about watching clips from a solidarity rally held in Tel Aviv in support of the families of prisoners, which was attended by several of his close associates, including his daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.
He noted that the crowd cheered when his name was mentioned, but they booed when Weitkov referred to Netanyahu, indicating internal tension in the Israeli street.
Trump expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming international conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, scheduled to support the new peace agreement, pointing out that "the participation of a wide range of countries indicates that the world is united around the American plan."
In striking remarks, Trump claimed that reaching the agreement in Gaza would not have been possible "without the order he issued in June to launch an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities."
Trump had announced that the Israeli occupation and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his plan for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange, following indirect negotiations in Sharm El Sheikh.
The agreement stipulates a comprehensive ceasefire, a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, mutual release of prisoners, and immediate allowance for humanitarian aid to enter.
The first phase of the agreement came into effect last Friday afternoon, after the Israeli government approved it.
Trump: "The agreement would not have been achieved without striking Iran."
