Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is heading towards "modifying parts of the Washington plan to stop the ongoing war" in the Gaza Strip for two years, ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Israeli officials reported that "it is likely that Tel Aviv will implement President Trump's 21-point plan, including a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas," according to the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth."
The officials mentioned that "most of the points in the American plan are acceptable and are considered suitable for Israel, but there are parts that Netanyahu wants to correct before his meeting with Trump," they said, without providing further details.
Netanyahu is scheduled to meet the American president next Monday on the sidelines of his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
On Tuesday, President Trump proposed a 21-point plan to end the war in Gaza during a meeting with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Israeli "Channel 12," the plan includes points such as forming an administration for Gaza in the post-war phase that does not include Hamas, and creating a joint security force of Palestinians and soldiers from Arab and Islamic countries, in addition to Arab and Islamic funding for the reconstruction of Gaza and managing its affairs, with partial participation from the Palestinian Authority in its administration.
In this context, the channel reported that close associates of Netanyahu spoke of "a change in Trump's tone regarding the war in Gaza," indicating that he will ask Netanyahu for "a clear timeline to end the war."
It added that estimates in "Israel" suggest that Trump will demand Netanyahu to move forward with the American plan to end the war.
Netanyahu's close associates confirmed that there is full coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, but they also noted at the same time "a change in Trump's patience" regarding the war in Gaza.
For its part, the private "Channel 13" reported that senior officials in Tel Aviv believe that the U.S. administration's patience regarding the situation in Gaza "is beginning to run out."
It pointed out that the White House has been increasingly pressuring "Israel" in recent days to reach a deal with Hamas.
According to the channel, expectations in "Israel" are that Trump will express a firm stance regarding ending the war in the Gaza Strip during his meeting with Netanyahu next Monday.
In contrast, Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad said on Friday in an interview with the American network "CNN" that the movement is ready to exit its rule over the Gaza Strip.
Regarding the recent American proposal that calls for Hamas to release all prisoners, both alive and dead, in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners and an immediate ceasefire, Hamad stated: "We insisted on adhering to the comprehensive deal, to return all prisoners within 24 hours, but Israel refused."
Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli captives in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while around 11,100 Palestinians are imprisoned in its jails suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many of them having died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
Hamas has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to reach a partial or comprehensive prisoner exchange deal, while Netanyahu continues his obstinacy and aggression against the strip, amid accusations from the Israeli opposition and families of the captives that he is continuing the war to maintain his political position.
Since October 7, 2023, "Israel," with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 65,926 martyrs and 167,783 injured, most of whom are children and women, and famine has claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
Estimates in Israel indicate that Trump will demand Netanyahu to move forward with the American plan to end the war.
