Analysts and former Israeli officials believe that the Prime Minister of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, has established the State of Palestine through his mistakes. They pointed to the isolation of Tel Aviv due to the government's failure. This came on the heels of announcements from Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal recognizing the State of Palestine, bringing the total number of countries that have taken this step to 153 out of 193 member states of the United Nations.
Similar announcements from other countries are also anticipated, which the occupying state is monitoring with concern, referring to it as a "political tsunami." Channel 12 in Hebrew quotes Professor Yuval Shani from the Hebrew University stating: "Most countries in the world had recognized a Palestinian state even before the current wave of countries."
He adds: "What is new is that another group of Western countries is now announcing its recognition of a Palestinian state, which means that at this moment, there will only be very few significant countries in the world that still do not recognize a Palestinian state."
Recognition of the State of Palestine is a turning point for major European countries.
