In a symbolic and notable political move, the municipality of Saint-Denis, one of the largest suburbs of the French capital Paris, raised the Palestinian flag above its official building on Monday morning.
This action, which involves several French mayors, comes as a direct challenge to the instructions from the Ministry of the Interior, which warned against this step, and as a celebration of the anticipated historic decision by the French government to officially recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings today.
This initiative was launched at the invitation of the leader of the French Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, who urged mayors to raise the Palestinian flag on September 22, coinciding with the expected date for official French recognition.
This symbolic gesture is essential to support their country's diplomatic decision and to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
