The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Israel carries broad political and security dimensions, as it comes in the wake of the failed assassination attempt on leaders of the "Hamas" movement in the Qatari capital, Doha, and the unprecedented regional and international repercussions and pressures on Benjamin Netanyahu's government. The visit coincides with a rising wave of international recognitions of the State of Palestine, reflecting a growing decline in Israel's diplomatic standing.
Writers, political analysts, specialists, and university professors, in separate conversations with "Y," believe that Rubio's visit primarily aims to restore Israel's image on the international stage and contain the fallout from the bombing that targeted Doha, as well as discuss military plans related to the Gaza Strip, such as the "Gideon's Chariots 2" operation.
According to writers, analysts, and specialists, Washington and Tel Aviv seek to coordinate their positions regarding the anticipated developments at the United Nations, where an increasing number of countries are moving towards recognizing the Palestinian state, which may prompt Israel to respond with field actions, the most prominent of which is the annexation of lands in the West Bank, noting that the United States is trying, through its unconditional support for Israel, to ensure that the Arab-Islamic summit in Doha does not become a turning point in the regional balance of power.

An American Attempt to Save Netanyahu and His Government from Predicaments

Dr. Hassan Ayoub, a professor of political science at An-Najah National University and an expert on American affairs, believes that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Israel represents a clear American attempt to save Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government from the predicaments they have faced in recent weeks, foremost among them the failure of the assassination attempt on Hamas leaders and the negotiating delegation in the Qatari capital, Doha.
He explains that the dilemma for the American administration does not lie in the attack on Doha itself, but in its failure, pointing out that it is impossible to imagine that an operation of this magnitude could be carried out without Washington's knowledge.
Ayoub indicates that the United States, or at least President Donald Trump and his close associates, were betting that the success of the assassination would create a political and diplomatic vacuum that would pave the way for implementing a joint plan prepared by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair regarding the future of Gaza, which is based on entrenching Israeli occupation of the strip and granting Netanyahu's government an advantage that would enable it to impose its presence as a dominant force in the region.
Ayoub clarifies that the second factor Rubio seeks to address is the wave of successive recognitions of the State of Palestine on the international stage, which Ayoub describes as a significant indicator of the decline in Israel's diplomatic and political standing.
He points out that Rubio is trying through this visit to convince Israel to postpone or rearrange its military operation in the Gaza Strip called "Gideon's Chariots 2," in an attempt to contain the repercussions left by the bombing of Doha on the regional and international levels.

Unprecedented Complications Facing the American-Israeli Project

Ayoub confirms that the displacement plans proposed by Israel and the United States face unprecedented complications, not only due to the refusal of the majority of Gaza's residents to leave their areas but also because the strike on Qatar revealed that Israel has a broader regional agenda that does not only concern Hamas or the hostage issue, but rather a geopolitical project based on American support, combining extreme right-wing tendencies with capitalist interests that see Gaza as a real estate development project regardless of the suffering of its residents.
He notes that targeting Doha demonstrated Israel's pursuit of "normalizing extermination" in Gaza, while simultaneously subjugating even Washington's closest allies and the main mediator in the negotiations.
