Israeli media addressed the accusations directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government following the operation that targeted leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Qatari capital, considering that the timing of the strike was not coincidental but came after Israel learned that Hamas would respond positively to the proposals of the deal.
Political affairs correspondent at Channel 11, Michael Shimshon, revealed that the statements of Mossad chief David Barnea two weeks before the operation contained signals regarding plans to assassinate Hamas leaders abroad, even within Qatar, but he clarified to cabinet ministers that such a step should not be taken during negotiations.
Shimshon pointed out that Barnea confirmed during the session that "there are currently no negotiations," which implies approval for the assassination, but he later reiterated that the timing was not appropriate, calling for waiting until the outlines of the initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump became clear.
However, the final decision rested with Netanyahu. Former head of the prison service intelligence, Yuval Biton, questioned the true objective of this operation, considering that the attempt to push Hamas to make concessions would not succeed, affirming that it would not change its demands even if all its leaders were assassinated.
Meanwhile, Knesset member from the "There is a Future" party, Ram Ben Barak, criticized the timing of this operation, explaining that Israel was in the midst of discussions regarding a prisoner deal, which is a top priority. However, he expressed doubt about the considerations that led Netanyahu to set this timing.
For his part, national security and northern front expert Kobi Marom described the decision as a deliberate cancellation of the prisoner issue from the agenda, noting that the security leadership opposed the operation and preferred to give negotiations a chance, yet Netanyahu chose to proceed with the attack.
Rochama Yuhifot (mother of one of the prisoners held by Hamas) held Trump responsible, stating that he gave the green light for this operation, and called on him to intervene to correct what she described as "the great mistake."
She affirmed that she was certain Hamas would provide a positive response had the strike not been carried out. Yuhifot added that the families of the prisoners are living in a state of continuous suffering due to these policies, emphasizing that her priority is to recover her son, not to engage in complex political and security calculations.
Expert Marom returned to point out that Israel was aware that Hamas would accept the partial deal, but he clarified that the comprehensive deal had not yet been finalized, making the timing extremely sensitive.
The mother of the Israeli prisoner conveyed the families' feelings of frustration, confirming that the government repeatedly tries at the expense of the prisoners and their families, at a time when she believes that the window for a positive response from Hamas was close, but the operation completely cut it off.
The attempt to push Hamas to make concessions will not succeed, affirming that it will not change its demands even if all its leaders are assassinated.
