The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Friday that a security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, dedicated to discussing plans related to the occupation of the city of Gaza, has concluded.
The official spokesperson stated that the security meeting, attended by ministers and security and military leaders, lasted for nearly 5 hours. The authority did not mention the outcomes of the security meeting or provide further details about it.
This meeting comes in the wake of rising internal and external criticisms following Netanyahu's announcement of his government's intention to occupy the city of Gaza, a move that opponents in Israel have deemed a "reckless adventure" that could endanger the lives of soldiers without achieving clear political gains.
Earlier on Friday, families of prisoners held in Gaza accused Netanyahu of obstructing a comprehensive deal that would have led to the release of all detainees in the sector.
On September 3, the Israeli army launched an aggression named "Gideon's Chariots 2" to fully occupy the city of Gaza (north), which sparked criticism and protests in Israel, fearing for the lives of the prisoners and soldiers.
Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while more than 10,800 Palestinians are held in its prisons, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many reported dead, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
Repeatedly, Hamas has confirmed its readiness to release Israeli prisoners "in one batch" in exchange for ending the genocide, withdrawing the Israeli army from Gaza, and releasing Palestinian prisoners, but Netanyahu, who is wanted by international justice, evades this by insisting on the continued occupation of Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 64,756 dead and 164,059 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, along with hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 413 Palestinians, including 143 children, as of Friday.
Netanyahu's meeting comes amid rising internal and external criticisms regarding the occupation of Gaza.
