UNICEF: The rate of malnutrition among children in Gaza exceeds the record high.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) stated that the rates of malnutrition among children in the Gaza Strip are increasing at an alarming pace, and that the latest data shows an unprecedented rate in August of children suffering from acute malnutrition who were examined.

The organization noted in a press release today, Thursday, that the rate across Gaza rose to 13.5% last month, up from 8.3% in July.

In Gaza City - where famine has been confirmed - the number of children undergoing treatment for malnutrition was higher, reaching 19%, compared to 16% in July.

Katherine Russell, the Executive Director of UNICEF, stated that one in five children in Gaza City was diagnosed with acute malnutrition during August and needed the life-saving nutritional support provided by UNICEF.

She pointed out that the organization managed to bring more supplies to the Gaza Strip. However, she said that the Israeli military escalation in the city forced about 10 nutrition centers to close, leaving children more vulnerable.

She emphasized the need to protect nutrition services in Gaza City and throughout the Strip, adding: "No child should suffer from malnutrition that we can prevent and treat when we can safely access and deliver aid."

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, the occupying power, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.

The genocide has resulted in 64,718 martyrs, 163,859 injured, most of whom are children and women, and hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, with famine claiming the lives of 411 citizens, including 142 children.
