French academic: Our recognition of the State of Palestine is a crucial step amid the tragedy in Gaza.

Prominent French political science professor and Middle East specialist, Jean-Paul Chaniola, stated that "the whole world, except for Western countries, has recognized the State of Palestine," and emphasized that his country's recognition is a "crucial step, especially in light of the tragedy being witnessed in the Gaza Strip."

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Chaniola, who also serves as the honorary president of the Mediterranean and Middle East Research Institute, stressed that French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of his intention to recognize the State of Palestine sends a message that "war will achieve nothing, but will only lead to endless tragedies."

This comes as the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip continues for nearly two years, while European countries, including France, Belgium, and the UK, have announced their intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine during United Nations meetings this September.
