A stormy meeting of the small ministerial council (the cabinet) of the occupying government revealed a deep rift between the political level led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the entire security establishment regarding the future of the war and the handling of the prisoner issue in Gaza.
While Netanyahu strongly pushed for the rejection of any "partial" prisoner exchange deal, preferring to proceed with a large-scale military operation to occupy the city of Gaza, all security leaders unanimously warned that this step would be a "heavy price" and would turn Gaza into a "Vietnam for the occupation."
Netanyahu based his position on support from U.S. President Donald Trump, relaying Trump's words: "Forget the partial deals. Go in with full force and finish it."
Netanyahu prefers to proceed with a large-scale military operation to occupy the city of Gaza.
