Egypt calls on Weitkov to take advantage of Hamas' approval and move to end the Gaza war.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Atti, during a call with the U.S. envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, urged the current opportunity presented by Hamas's acceptance of the U.S. proposal to be seized in order to move towards ending the ongoing war in Gaza. Abdel Atti emphasized the importance of this opportunity given the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinians.

The statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry indicated that both sides discussed the latest developments regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, especially after Hamas's acceptance of the U.S. proposal. The statement stressed the necessity for the occupying state to respond to the proposal and implement its elements to address the current crisis.

Abdel Atti stressed the importance of preserving the lives of Palestinian prisoners and alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza, as well as ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of Palestinians who are subjected to a systematic policy of starvation.

He also affirmed the necessity of utilizing the proposed sixty-day ceasefire period to negotiate an end to the war and establish the foundations for a just settlement of the Palestinian issue, noting that the unjust war has continued for nearly two years.

In a related context, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed its deep concern over the Israeli government's continued implementation of a military attack plan aimed at controlling cities in the Gaza Strip, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law.

Cairo expressed its strong disapproval of the Israeli escalation policies and the expansion of the occupation of Palestinian territories, whether in the West Bank or Gaza Strip, indicating that these policies reflect the Israeli bet on military solutions instead of engaging in serious negotiations.

Minister Abdel Atti also addressed the Iranian nuclear program during his call with Witkoff, pointing to Cairo's position calling for de-escalation in the Middle East and the absence of military solutions to this crisis and other regional crises.
