The number of killed journalist in the Gaza Strip rises to 239.

The number of Palestinian journalist martyrs in the Gaza Strip has risen to 239 since the beginning of the genocide war waged by the occupying state since October 7, 2023. This came after the announcement of the martyrdom of journalist Islam Al-Koumi, who was martyred in an Israeli bombing in the Al-Sabra neighborhood south of Gaza City.

The Government Media Office in Gaza confirmed that Al-Koumi was working as an editor and content creator with several media platforms. The office strongly condemned the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation, calling on the international community to take a firm stance against these crimes.

The office also called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all journalistic bodies worldwide to condemn the systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media personnel in the Gaza Strip. These calls come at a time when the targeting of journalists by the occupation is escalating.

The office held the Israeli occupation, the U.S. administration, and the countries participating in the genocide, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for committing these heinous crimes. The occupation continues to target journalists despite international warnings.

The occupying state deliberately targets journalists inside Gaza, as it bombs them, arrests them, or threatens them, which observers consider attempts to silence their voices that reveal the details of the genocide perpetrated by Tel Aviv in the sector.

On August 11, two correspondents from Al Jazeera in Gaza City, Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qareqea, along with three accompanying photographers from the channel's crew, were martyred due to an Israeli bombing that targeted a tent for journalists near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

The martyrdom of Al-Sharif and his colleagues reflects, according to observers, the occupation's intention to kill the journalists present in Gaza City before proceeding to occupy the city, as part of a gradual plan approved by the Israeli government to fully occupy the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, the occupying state, with U.S. support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 62,064 martyrs and 156,573 injured, most of whom are children and women, in addition to more than 9,000 missing and hundreds of thousands displaced, leading to a famine that has claimed the lives of 263 people, including 112 children.
