Lamis Rayan, a mother of three from the village of Aroub north-west of Ramallah, is living a painful experience after occupation soldiers raided her home and stole her children's savings. Lamis says: 'I did not hurt as much over the breaking of my home as I did over the theft of my children's piggy bank, which they spent two years collecting.'
During the raid, the officer asked Lamis to gather all the money and gold jewelry in one place, indicating an intention to steal. The soldiers spent three hours in the house, where they detained her husband and interrogated her several times, threatening to arrest her children.
When the soldiers searched the children's rooms, they found their piggy banks and stole what was inside, causing great sadness among the children, especially little Ilan, who was saving money to buy a new bedroom. Lamis says her daughter was very upset and still wishes to get her stolen money back.
Lamis's home was not the only one that was robbed; another young newlywed's house was also looted, losing all his wedding gifts and his wife's jewelry. Additionally, cash was stolen from other homes in the town, reflecting the occupation's policy of tightening the screws on Palestinians.
In the town of Bartaa, occupation soldiers stole money from several homes, raising concerns among residents living behind the apartheid wall. Multiple theft cases have been reported in Jenin and its villages, especially after the start of the Israeli military operation 'Iron Wall.'
Analysts consider this phenomenon to be a deliberate policy by the occupation army, as cases of theft have systematically increased in recent months. Suleiman Basharat explains that there are three motives behind this policy: the first is to restore the soldiers' honor, the second is to send a message to Palestinians that there is no hope for a normal life, and the third is to raise the cost of Palestinian steadfastness.
This policy manifests itself in targeting Palestinian property, increasing their suffering and making them feel targeted in every aspect of their lives. The theft of children's piggy banks reflects the extent of the degradation the occupation has reached in its dealings with Palestinians.
What the occupation army is doing is a deliberate policy of stealing citizens' property and destroying their homes.
