A lawsuit before the ICC accuses "Israel" of committing crimes against journalists in Gaza.

Two human rights organizations have filed a joint lawsuit before the International Criminal Court, accusing the Israeli occupying state of the systematic targeting of journalists in the besieged Gaza Strip. This lawsuit follows the assassination of reporter Anas Al-Sharif and four of his colleagues, reflecting the escalation of attacks on journalists in the region.

According to available information, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza and the Hind Rjab Human Rights Foundation, based in Brussels, have submitted the lawsuit to the International Criminal Court, where the organizations confirmed that the recent Israeli attack represents much more than just another tragedy in a conflict characterized by violence against journalists.

The organizations noted that 242 journalists have been martyred since the beginning of the war, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, indicating the scale of violations faced by journalists in the Palestinian territories. They affirmed that these incidents are not isolated events, but rather part of a broader campaign against the press.

In the submitted lawsuit, the organizations called for the issuance of arrest warrants against specific Israeli military officials, while expanding the current International Criminal Court warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to include crimes against journalists.

Diab Abu Jahja, head of the Hind Rjab Human Rights Foundation, pointed out that the case is not a symbolic lawsuit, but reflects a tragic reality, considering that the assassination of Al-Sharif was a brutal and arrogant act. This statement reflects the frustration and anger over the escalation of attacks on journalists.

Amnesty International condemned in the strongest terms what it described as the "deliberate killing" committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian journalists, following an airstrike that targeted their media tent in the occupied city of Gaza.

Journalist Anas Al-Sharif and several of his colleagues were martyred during this airstrike, where the six targeted journalists represented the voice of Gaza in the face of siege and destruction, continuing their field coverage despite direct threats of death.
