A delegation from Hamas, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Cairo on Tuesday to hold talks with Egyptian officials as part of new efforts to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip. This move comes at a time when the intensity of the war on the sector is escalating, as the delegation seeks to discuss ways to end the humanitarian suffering experienced by the Palestinians.
Hamas leader Taher al-Nounou clarified that the talks will address the latest developments of the aggression in Gaza, in addition to the situation in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. These points are considered pivotal in the context of the discussions that will take place with the Egyptian side.
The delegation has begun preliminary meetings in preparation for the official meetings scheduled for Wednesday, which will focus on ways to halt the aggression and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the sector. The discussions will also address internal Palestinian relations and ways to reach national agreements, in addition to bilateral relations with Egypt.
On another note, Palestinian sources reported that the delegation will discuss with the Egyptian side Cairo's efforts and those of mediators regarding ceasefire negotiations and prisoner exchanges. These negotiations come amid mediators' attempts to present a new proposal for a ceasefire.
In a related context, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that "the partial deal with Hamas is a thing of the past," emphasizing that the current phase requires "a comprehensive deal with no turning back." This statement reflects the challenges facing ceasefire efforts.
This visit is considered an important step in the pursuit of ending the aggression on the Gaza Strip, as Palestinians hope to achieve tangible progress in talks with the Egyptian side.
