The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, stated that the world has failed in its commitments to protect journalists, doctors, and civilians in the Gaza Strip. She pointed out that the old Israeli narrative is no longer valid to convince people that all Palestinians are terrorists.
In an interview, Albanese confirmed that Israel is killing journalists in a brazen manner, noting that these crimes are committed under the pretext of their affiliation with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), instead of providing them protection to carry out their work.
She added that Israel does not only kill journalists but has made civilians targets of its military machine, especially women and children who represent 75% of the victims of this war, while they represented only 5% of the victims of the world war.
Albanese clarified that the old Israeli narrative is no longer acceptable, and that people are beginning to awaken from their slumber and take matters into their own hands instead of relying on governments that fail to fulfill their duties.
She pointed out that this global shift in attitude towards Palestine is reflected in the widespread boycott of everything Israeli, a stance similar to what happened with the apartheid regime in South Africa.
However, she emphasized that this popular stance will not be able to stop the war unless countries intervene, impose sanctions on Israel, and send ships loaded with food and medicine to break the siege imposed on Gaza.
Albanese explained that countries are assisting Israel, stressing the need for Mediterranean countries, especially Arab ones, to break this siege and join the case filed against Israel to force it to stop the genocide.
She also did not rule out that global popular pressure could stop the war as it did previously in Rwanda, where 800,000 civilians lost their lives in front of the eyes of the United Nations.
She noted that the real problem lies in the fact that the world, especially Arab countries, is not only remaining silent about what Israel is doing but is also allowing it to happen, as only two Arab countries have joined the case filed before the International Criminal Court.
She also confirmed that the global movement to recognize the State of Palestine is not enough, and that countries must send their ships and personnel to break the siege imposed on Gaza.
