Trump's push for the Nobel Prize may land him in political trouble, as happened with Obama.
The British newspaper The Times addressed U.S. President Donald Trump's pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize, noting that he believes he has succeeded in ending five global conflicts. This pursuit comes as part of his deep desire to obtain this award, which was previously awarded to U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
According to the report, Trump did not clarify which wars he claims to have ended, but he insisted that his efforts in multiple regions justify awarding him the prize. Names of global leaders who have received the award, such as Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama, were mentioned.
In the Caucasus region, the United States is hosting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an attempt to resolve the dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The proposed agreement includes the construction of a corridor known as the 'Trump Bridge', aimed at improving relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In South Asia, Trump claimed that he contributed to stopping the war between India and Pakistan following recent tensions in Kashmir. Although Pakistan nominated him for the Nobel Prize, Indian officials condemned this, asserting that Trump had no real role in resolving the conflict.
In Africa, Trump claimed that he succeeded in stopping the war between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda after the United States promised investments in the region. This intervention came at a time when tensions escalated due to the control of the Rwandan-backed 'M23' movement.
Cambodia also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after his role in resolving a border dispute with Thailand, where he contacted leaders and offered to reduce tariffs, helping to calm the situation.
In the context of conflicts in the Middle East, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated Trump for the Nobel Prize due to his role in negotiating the Abraham Accords, and Trump believes that bombing Iranian nuclear facilities was a significant achievement in promoting peace.
Analysts' warnings indicate that Trump's pursuit of the prize may land him in political trouble, as the award could turn into a stigma as it did with Obama, who faced criticism for his policies after winning the prize.
