Poll: 79% of the Occupation's Audience "Indifferent" to Famine and Genocide in Gaza
79% of the Occupation's audience are not concerned about the suffering of Gaza's residents, reflecting a sharp internal division in Israeli society.
Recent survey results conducted by the "Viterbi Institute for Public Opinion and Policy Research" at the Occupation's Democracy Institute revealed that the majority of the Occupation's audience are indifferent or unconcerned about reports of famine and the severe suffering experienced by the residents of the besieged Gaza Strip. The results showed that 79% of respondents expressed little or no concern about the humanitarian situation in the sector, while 70% of leftist Jews expressed concern about what is happening, reflecting a clear internal division in Israeli society regarding the Palestinian issue and the situation in Gaza.
In a related context, the survey indicated that 78% of settlers believe that Israel is making significant efforts to avoid causing unnecessary suffering to Palestinians, according to their claims, which reflects an attempt by the Israeli government to justify its repressive policies and the blockade imposed on the sector. Additionally, 70% of settlers expressed high or moderate confidence in the Israeli Occupation Forces' reports regarding the number of martyrs in Gaza, at a time when international criticism of the Occupation's policies is escalating, amid UN warnings that the residents of the sector are facing "the worst scenarios of famine."
This survey comes amid increasing international pressure on Israel to lift the blockade and open crossings for the entry of humanitarian aid, especially with the continued closure of all crossings since March 2, 2024, despite a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. This closure has exacerbated the humanitarian situation, with UN officials describing the condition as "systematic starvation and a war crime," amid the ongoing prevention of food, medicine, and water from entering the besieged sector.
In terms of the field situation, statistics indicate that the genocidal war on Gaza has so far resulted in the martyrdom of more than 60,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, amid widespread destruction of infrastructure and homes, and the continuation of the blockade that prevents the entry of essential humanitarian aid. Despite repeated international calls to open the way for aid entry, the Israeli Occupation government continues to reject these appeals and clings to its repressive policies, leading to an escalation of the suffering of innocent civilians who are now surrounded by death on all sides, as confirmed by human rights organizations and relief agencies.
