Death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli Megiddo prison sparks Palestinian outrage

Two Palestinian institutions announced on Sunday the death of a prisoner from the city of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank in Israeli Megiddo prison, which sparked a wave of anger and condemnation in Palestinian circles. The Palestinian Prisoners' Club and the Palestinian Authority's Commission of Detainees' Affairs confirmed in a joint statement that the administrative detainee Ahmad Saeed Saleh Tazazaa, 20 years old, was martyred inside the prison.

The General Authority for Civil Affairs, the official Palestinian body responsible for communication with the Israeli side, clarified that the information it received indicates that the martyr had been detained since May 6 of last year, without precise details available regarding the circumstances of his death. The statement mentioned that Ahmad Tazazaa was held under administrative detention, a decision that allows for the detention of Palestinians without formal charges, usually lasting for six months and subject to extension, during which the detainee is prohibited from accessing the secret files presented to the court.
