23 civilians killed in Israeli raids on Gaza

Israeli airstrikes overnight and into Saturday killed at least 23 Palestinians in Gaza, including three children and their parents, when their tent in Gaza City was bombed, Gaza officials said.

Israeli bombardment continues amid growing international warnings about Israeli plans to control aid distribution in Gaza, as the Israeli blockade of the enclave, home to more than two million people, enters its third consecutive month.

The United Nations and aid organizations have rejected Israeli efforts to distribute aid, including a plan by a group of American security contractors, former military officers, and humanitarian aid officials calling itself the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, according to the Associated Press.

The Gaza Ministry of Health said that among the 23 bodies transferred to hospitals over the past 24 hours were those of a family of five whose tent was bombed in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City.

Another Israeli airstrike late Friday hit a warehouse belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Jabalia area in the northern Gaza Strip. Four people were killed, according to the Indonesian hospital where the bodies were transferred.

An Associated Press video showed the destroyed building engulfed in flames.

Several residents, including Hamza Mohammed, reported that the warehouse had been empty since it was bombed and raided several times during the Israeli ground operation in the Gaza Strip last year.
