Prisoners Authority and Prisoners Club: Nasr Ziyara from Gaza died in Ramla Prison

The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and the Prisoners' Club confirmed the martyrdom of the detainee Nasr Salem Saeed Ziyara (65 years old) from Gaza, in Ramla prison on August 16. He is one of dozens of detainees from Gaza who have died as a result of systematic torture, while the occupation continues to conceal the identities of the majority of them and detain their bodies.

The Authority and the Club explained, in a joint statement, that the martyr Ziara, according to his family, was arrested on December 29, 2023, along with his son Jihad (37 years old), who is in the Negev prison, according to the available data.

The statement added that the martyr, Ziyara, was married and had seven children. The occupation forces arrested him from his home in the Tuffah neighborhood. He and his son were subjected to a field investigation inside the home, in addition to the torture that continued for hours before their arrest.

The statement said that according to prisoners who were visited in Ramla prison, "they confirmed that the martyr Ziara was transferred to Ramla prison a week before his martyrdom, and he was suffering from a very difficult health condition, including burns in the lower part of his body, and he was unable to walk on his feet, and he stayed for a week in Ramla prison until he was martyred there."

According to the martyr's family, he suffered from diabetes and heart problems, and did not suffer from any burns on his body when he was arrested.

The Commission and the Club added that with the martyrdom of the detainee Ziyara, the number of martyrs among the prisoners and detainees announced after the seventh of October last year has risen to (24) martyrs, who are only those announced and whose identities are known, while the occupation continues to conceal the identities of dozens of martyrs among the detainees who have died in prisons and camps, and there is no final and accurate number of their numbers to this day, in addition to detainees who were subjected to field executions.

The statement pointed out that the occupation authorities have not yet announced the total number of detainees in Gaza since October 7, and continue to carry out the crime of enforced disappearance against the vast majority of them, despite the efforts made by institutions recently in light of some legal amendments that were made, which allowed them the opportunity to clarify the places of detention of all those who have been detained for more than 90 days, and to visit some of them under strict supervision, noting that the occupation imposed legal amendments at the beginning of the war, to consolidate the crime of enforced disappearance, including preventing detainees from meeting with a lawyer.

The Authority and the Club held the occupation fully responsible for the martyrdom of the detainee Nasr Ziyara, who was subjected to a complex crime through his arrest, torture, and detention in humiliating and harsh conditions, like all the detainees in Gaza who face torture operations - unprecedented - in their intensity and level, so that this crime is added to the record of ongoing crimes against our people, which have been escalating since the beginning of the war of extermination, one of the aspects of which is the systematic torture of prisoners.

The Commission and the Club renewed their demand for the international human rights system to overcome the ongoing state of international impotence in the face of the war of extermination, and to take clear decisions to hold the Israeli occupation state accountable, and to stop the comprehensive aggression against our people, including the crimes committed against prisoners and detainees in the prisons and camps of the Israeli occupation.

The statement pointed out that until today there is no clear and accurate information about all the numbers of detainees in Gaza, including women and children, and the martyrs who were killed as a result of torture or execution crimes, and only what is available according to what was announced by the occupation prison administration at the beginning of August about the detention of (1584) of those classified as (illegal combatants) in prisons, and this data does not include detainees in camps affiliated with the army.

It is worth noting that the occupation had revealed through its media that it had arrested more than (4,500) citizens from Gaza since the beginning of the war. However, according to the follow-up of the relevant institutions, the numbers of those who were arrested from Gaza, in addition to the workers who were arrested from the 1948 territories at the beginning of the war, indicate that the numbers exceed that.

It is noteworthy that with the martyrdom of Ziyara, the number of martyrs of the prisoner movement since 1967 has risen to (261), and they are only the martyrs announced by the institutions according to the documented data available to them over the past decades.
