Jordan and Egypt hold Israel responsible for dangerous escalation in the region

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ati held Israel responsible for the dangerous escalation in the region as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, violations of international law and illegal practices in the West Bank, and political assassinations. They called on the UN Security Council to take a binding resolution imposing an end to Israel’s aggression on Gaza and its continued violations of international law.

During a phone call, the two ministers stressed the need to work towards calming the situation in order to prevent the region from slipping into a comprehensive regional conflict that would undermine stability in the Middle East, especially after the recent Israeli escalation. In this regard, the two ministers condemned political assassinations.

They stressed that the first step towards calm is to stop the aggression on Gaza and end the humanitarian tragedy it has caused. They affirmed their condemnation of the serious Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law and its violations of the sovereignty of states.

The two ministers reiterated the need to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories in a way that addresses the roots of the conflict in the region, restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and establish their independent, sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, as the only way to achieve security and stability in the region.
