WHO warns of a shortage of fuel to operate hospitals in Gaza

World Health Organization Director Tedros Ghebreyesus warned of a catastrophic risk to the health system in Gaza due to the depletion or lack of fuel.

Ghebreyesus said on the “X” platform, “Only 90,000 liters of fuel entered Gaza on Wednesday, and the health sector alone needs 80,000 liters per day, and this forces the United Nations, including the World Health Organization, and its partners to make impossible choices.”

Limited amounts of fuel are currently allocated to major hospitals such as Nasser Medical Center, Al Amal Hospital, and the Kuwaiti Field Hospital, in addition to 21 ambulances belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Tedros stressed the need for fuel to avoid completely stopping the provision of health services.

He said that after the European Hospital in Gaza was out of service since July 2, stopping service in any other hospital would have a disastrous impact.
