Biden's confessions...an electoral maneuver using live ammunition

Yesterday, US President Joe Biden's statements in an interview with CNN, in which he admitted for the first time that American weapons sent to Israel were used to kill civilians in Gaza, sparked major reactions about the timing, repercussions and outcomes.

The writers and analysts interviewed by Al-Quds see these statements as an attempt to win over voters who are angry with the way Biden is managing the aggression against Gaza, and his provision of lethal weapons that have claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent people, most of them women and children, while the United States used its veto power against all draft resolutions. International efforts to stop the war, which made the United States stand alone in the world in support of the crimes of murder and destruction in the Gaza Strip.

Writers and analysts considered these statements to be a “live ammunition maneuver” coming at the gates of the US elections expected next November, which Biden fears he will lose to his opponent, Donald Trump.

The writer and political analyst, Dr. Ghassan Al-Khatib, in an interview with Al-Quds, said that these statements come in light of the growing protests on the American street and the dwindling of his chances of winning a second term in the American elections, scheduled to be held at the end of this year.

According to Al-Khatib, if there were no upcoming elections, Biden would have been able to withstand more pressure, but in this period he is worried and can no longer bear it, and he hopes to stop the war as quickly as possible for internal reasons, while Netanyahu wants to complete the war for his internal reasons as well.

Al-Khatib points out that Biden’s statements reveal the pressure on Israel regarding the issue of concluding the deal, as well as reducing the severity of the impact of the war on civilians, something that the Palestinians benefit from little by reducing the brutality of Israeli crimes. In the first months of the war, hundreds were killed, and now the number of martyrs has decreased to dozens. ! In addition to the pressures it is exposed to in order to bring in humanitarian and relief aid.

Regarding the possibility that Biden’s statements could be a condemnation of him for causing the killing of civilians before the International Criminal Court, Al-Khatib says: “This may be a reason for filing cases, but I rule out reaching the actual trial stage, and these are statements that open the case in international forums.”

For his part, writer and political analyst Dr. Ali Al-Jarbawi to “Al-Quds”: “Despite Biden’s talk about stopping the arms shipment, he did not mind storming Rafah, and he wants a plan to prevent civilian casualties. There is disagreement over the method of storming and the military operation in Rafah, and there is American support for Israel that has not stopped, and the American administration is trying to separate Between support for Israel and the government of Israel.

Al-Jarbawi continues, “Internal criticism of Biden, even from his party, shows concern about the expected loss in the upcoming elections. America, as a superpower, can confront external criticism, but when it came to massive internal protests, the situation changed.”

Al-Jarbawi points out that Biden’s statements also aim to encourage other parties in the international community, with a signal from the Americans, to intensify their criticism of Israel, and perhaps impose measures against it, especially some European countries, which opens the way for those countries to contain their people’s criticism regarding their position on the war on Gaza. In light of the escalation of international calls demanding an end to the war.

Al-Jarbawi notes that Biden’s confessions about causing the killing of civilians in Gaza open the way for gathering evidence, especially for South Africa’s lawsuit in the International Criminal Court, ruling out that matters will reach the point of an actual trial for Biden and American officials, but the way may pave the way for the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli officials, even if they are not completed. At the very least, it is embarrassing for Israel and contributes to the moral framework of support for the Palestinian people, which is very important.

Writer and political analyst Dr. Hani Al-Masry said in an interview with Al-Quds that these statements may not hold up in the coming days, just as happened with the issue of imposing sanctions on an Israeli occupation army unit.

Al-Masry points out that Biden fully supports Israel, and his statements come in an attempt to block the path to the student protest movement to prevent its expansion socially, as well as to try to reduce losses in the upcoming American elections, and his statements are an opportunity to restore America’s image before its allies in the world.

Al-Masry notes that the American differences with Israel over the war on Gaza may come in the context of its attempt to protect Israel from itself, and America did not oppose the storming of Rafah, but rather wants a clear and guaranteed plan to reduce civilian casualties.

Professor of International Law, Dr. Musa Al Dweik, in an interview with “Al Quds”, said that Biden’s statements are an indication of pressure on Israel to agree to what is offered in the deal, and it is also a maneuver by Biden to influence public opinion within America for fear that the protest movement in universities will expand and spread to American society.

Al-Dweik points out that the crimes taking place in Gaza have affected public opinion in America, and Biden fears that this will affect his chances of being re-elected as president, so he is trying to appease domestic American public opinion, at a time when Biden continues to support and emphasize not abandoning Israel at all times. areas, even if there are disagreements with them.

US President Joe Biden said, in an interview with CNN, on Wednesday, for the first time, "He will stop sending American weapons to Israel, which he admitted were used to kill civilians in Gaza, if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah."

“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a result of those bombs and the other ways they target population centers,” Biden said about the bombs that he temporarily stopped sending to Israel.

He continued by saying: "I made it clear that if they entered Rafah, I would not supply the weapons that were historically used to deal with the cities."
The US President stressed that they will continue "to ensure Israel's security regarding Iron Dome and its ability to respond to the attacks that have recently emerged from the Middle East, but this is just a mistake. We will not do that, we will not supply the weapons and artillery shells used."

As for what is happening in Rafah, and whether this is considered an entry by Israel into the city or not, Biden commented by saying: “They did not enter the population centers. What they did was directly on the border, and it is causing problems at the present time regarding “In Egypt, which has worked hard to make sure we have a relationship and assistance.”

Biden continued, "I made it clear to Netanyahu and the Defense Cabinet that they will not have our support if they actually go to these population centers. We will not move away from Israel's security, but we are moving away from Israel's ability to wage war in those areas," stressing that Israel has not yet crossed the red line. "But we stopped the arms shipment to it."
