UN condemns the " violence against Palestinian women" in Gaza

UN experts issued a joint statement on Monday condemning what they described as systematic violence against Palestinians in Gaza, especially against women and children.

The statement, which was co-written by seven human rights specialists, said that 390 bodies were discovered in mass graves near Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals.

“We are horrified by the details that have emerged from the mass graves recently discovered in the Gaza Strip,” the statement read. He adds that many of the bodies show "traces of torture and summary execution, and possible cases of people being buried alive."

The statement indicates that among the 34,488 Palestinians killed since the war began seven months ago, there were 14,500 children and 9,500 women. Israel disputes the death toll as it is compiled by local health authorities run by the Hamas-controlled government in Gaza.

The statement says that reports continue of sexual assaults and violence against women and girls detained by Israeli forces, but does not provide further details. He cites United Nations reports stating that “a number” of women and girls have “forcibly disappeared” since the beginning of the war.

The authors also say that miscarriages have increased; And that 17 thousand children have been orphaned since the beginning of the war; Israeli forces destroyed the largest fertility clinic in Gaza, which was said to be storing 3,000 embryos.

“Israel must cease all hostilities, and countries must stop exporting all weapons immediately. These countries can no longer ignore the fact that weapons are being used to kill and maim innocent women and children. There can be no more excuses,” the statement concluded. .

The Foreign Press Department in Israel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
