The King of Jordan and Biden confirm their commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza

King Abdullah II of Jordan and US President Joe Biden affirmed their joint commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

The White House reported that the two sides stressed during talks at the White House yesterday, Monday, the need for the immediate release of detainees with a sustainable ceasefire that allows for increased humanitarian aid.

An official Jordanian statement said that King Abdullah II urged Biden to intervene to prevent a new massacre in Rafah, the city located in the far south of Gaza.

The King of Jordan warned that the Israeli attack on Rafah, where about 1.4 million people were displaced as a result of the war on Gaza, threatened to cause a new massacre.

An official Jordanian statement said that the Jordanian King also warned that the consequences of any Israeli invasion of Rafah might lead to expanding the circle of conflict in the region, stressing the importance of supporting all efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

They were also quoted as emphasizing the need to avoid escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, and their commitment to achieving just and lasting peace.

For his part, King Abdullah II stressed to Biden the necessity of protecting civilians in Gaza, reiterating Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and attempts to separate them.

The Jordanian King reiterated the importance of the international community continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to carry out its vital role in accordance with its UN mandate.

He also called for doubling humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and delivering it without obstacles or delays.
