12 US senators threaten ICC to prevent an arrest warrant against Netanyahu

Republican members of the US Senate warned the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, against issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials, and threatened him with “heavy penalties.”

The website "Zitio" reported in news on Monday the contents of a threatening letter sent by 12 Republican senators, including Tom Cotton, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz, to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Khan.

The letter to Attorney General Khan claimed that if he issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, this situation would be interpreted “as a threat not only to Israel’s sovereignty, but also to the sovereignty of the United States” and would result in “heavy sanctions.”

The letter threatened Attorney General Khan with the words, “If you target Israel, we will target you.”

The senators threatened that they would "impose sanctions on Khan's employees and associates, and ban the Attorney General and his family from entering the United States."

The senators concluded their letter to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court with the phrase, "You have been warned."

On Friday, the International Criminal Court called for an end to attempts to undermine its independence, obstruct, intimidate, or influence its officials.

Recently, Israeli media circulated reports indicating the possibility of the Criminal Court issuing international arrest warrants against Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy, against the backdrop of practices during the war on the Gaza Strip.

On April 30, Netanyahu appealed to what he claimed were “leaders of the free world” to work to prevent the issuance of international arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court against Israeli officials.
