Al-Houthi announces the targeting of two American destroyers in the Red Sea

On Monday evening, the Houthi group announced that it had targeted two American destroyers in the Red Sea and an Israeli ship in the Indian Ocean with drones.

This came in a televised statement by the military spokesman for the Houthi forces, Yahya Saree.

Sarie said: “In victory for the oppression of the Palestinian people, and in response to the American-British aggression against our country, the armed forces carried out military operations against enemy warships in the Red Sea.”

He explained that the operations included "targeting two American warship destroyers with a number of drones that successfully achieved their goals."

Sarie added, “The naval forces, missile forces, and the unmanned air force targeted the CYCLADES ship (he did not identify it) in a joint operation in the Red Sea, and the hit was accurate.”

He explained, "The targeting of this ship came after it violated the decision to ban the passage of ships to the occupied Palestinian ports by heading to the port of Umm Rashrash (Eilat) on April 21."

The group's unmanned air force, according to Saree, also targeted the Israeli ship "MSC ORION" in the Indian Ocean with a number of drones.

Sarie continued: “With the support of our great people and the free people of the nation, we will continue to carry out our military operations in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and in defense of dear Yemen.”

As of 21:00 (UTG), there was no comment from the American or Israeli sides regarding the statement of the Houthi military spokesman.

In "solidarity with Gaza", which has been facing a devastating Israeli war since October 7, 2023, the Houthis have targeted, with missiles and drones, Israeli cargo ships or those linked to them in the Red and Arab Bahrain.

With Washington and London intervening through a coalition that launched strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, and tensions took an escalating turn last January, the Houthi group announced that it now considered all American and British ships among its military targets.

Recently, the group said it would expand its strikes to “include enemy-linked ships passing through the Indian Ocean via the Cape of Good Hope route.”
