Blinken: Israel did not inform the United States of a date for the Rafah operation

The White House announced on Tuesday that the Hamas movement’s position on the truce proposal is “less than encouraging” so far, while US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Israel had not informed the United States of a date for a possible military operation in Rafah, in the far south of the Gaza Strip.

Blinken said during a press conference in Washington alongside his British counterpart, David Cameron, “No, we do not have any date for an operation, at least a date that we have been informed of by the Israelis.”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Tuesday doubted the possibility of Israel launching an attack on Rafah before holding talks scheduled for next week with Washington, which expresses fears about the repercussions of a military operation in the crowded city.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that a date had been set for the invasion of Rafah, pledging to move forward with the elimination of Hamas despite international fears about the repercussions of a military move in the city where more than 1.5 million Palestinians have taken refuge.

The US Secretary of State said that Israel did not inform the United States of a date for a possible military operation in Rafah in the far south of the Gaza Strip, and that an Israeli delegation will visit Washington next week to listen to the concerns of the United States in this regard.

Blinken said during a press conference in Washington alongside his British counterpart David Cameron: “I do not expect any movement before those talks. In this regard, I do not see anything imminent.”

He pointed out that the United States would once again stress that any large-scale military operation in Rafah would be "extremely dangerous for civilians."
