Confrontations and trampling during demonstrations against Netanyahu government in Tel Aviv

Confrontations broke out and a car-ramming attack took place tonight in Tel Aviv during demonstrations demanding the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu's government and the conclusion of a deal to restore prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip.

The confrontations took place in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense and the headquarters of the Trade Union Federation in Tel Aviv, adding that the demonstrators called for a general strike and called on the “State Camp” party led by Benny Gantz to withdraw from the emergency government.

The police also suppressed the demonstrators in front of the union headquarters and arrested 8, including an American citizen, while the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that 3 protesters were injured after being run over.

Police also said that a female officer was injured during the clashes in Tel Aviv.

While Transportation Minister Miri Regev accused some protesters of wanting to assassinate Netanyahu, War Council member Benny Gantz, resigned Minister Gideon Saar, and opposition leader Yair Lapid denounced the incident of running over demonstrators.

In parallel with the central anti-government demonstration in Tel Aviv, demonstrations were organized in other cities, including Haifa, while hundreds gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s headquarters in occupied Jerusalem.

In a press conference held in front of the Ministry of Defense this evening, the families of the prisoners affirmed their continued protests to isolate Netanyahu because of his submission to personal and political interests, as they described it.

The families of the Israeli prisoners in Gaza criticized the progress of the negotiations, accusing Netanyahu of creating obstacles by reducing the powers of the negotiating delegation with the aim of not reaching an exchange deal, while their children were dying in captivity.

She also accused the prime minister of being afraid of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

Israel is witnessing a wave of demonstrations organized weekly in more than 30 locations in the Haifa area in the north and Eilat in the south, passing through occupied Jerusalem.

Israel estimates the number of prisoners remaining in Gaza at about 130, but it is likely that approximately 30 of them were killed.
